Maybe I'm getting old but wouldn't it be nice to see different teams play in the post season other than the same District foes. You could still seed the tournament based on regular season District winners but the ability to play teams you may not have played during the regular season would give it some more excitement. The draw would be anticipated like the NCAA. I think it would be great for high school basketball. What do you think?

Sounds like a "let's give everyone a trophy" tournament to me.

Don't think you are following him Cat. In his scenario, the 4 seed from District 1, instead of playing the one seed from District 1, might play the one seed from district 4 to open post season play. Has nothing to do with everyone "getting a trophy".

Is that what he's saying? Ok, got it now. :thumb:

Nah, I want to see the best teams from each District beat on each other during the season and bring their best to "cut night" at District. I don't care about playing other Districts. There exists such a rich, community tradition in our District games all over the state it would be criminal to stop that. For some people, in some communities, it is the only time they come out and see their neighbors all winter.

FYI: The logistics of this would be awful and I suspect the school districts would not be happy. District rivalries = Good Gates

Leave well enough alone. Look no farther than north of the Ohio River to our Hoosier buddies to find a screwed up and lousy state basketball tournament, compared to its original incarnation. Curiosity not only killed their cat, but it cooked their goose, as well.

Personally, since moving to KY I have also viewed 3 and 4 team districts as...well lets just say not a fan. Split each region into 2 separate conferences. Do away with districts. Win your 7 or 8 team conference...THEN you have really done something. Have a big conference tournament at the end of the season. Top 2 regular season conference teams from each conference automatically advance to region play. Conference winner, if other than one of the top two regular season teams, goes to region as well. Makes teams hungry in conference tournament and go all out. Keep sweet 16 tournament as is. Now THAT is something I could get behind.

Anybody that was part of the atmosphere at The Fieldhouse last night might beg to differ with the notion of changing things. Probably the same all over the Commonwealth.

Agreed, like the old saying "If it ain't broke. Don't fix it."

I agree with you. What would be the point in doing that? Everyone is a winner even if you go 0 for the season mentality?

How do you get that from anything stated in the op post? It's about playing different districts against each other rather than the same teams in the same district opening with each other every year.

Sound to me like someone trying to get out of playing someone tough in their district, that all.

Or could play someone even tougher. Works both ways. just adds spice to the tournament because you could open with someone different depending on the draw...still be seeded.

Hey, all for a 7th Region re-seeding with other districts in the state. We could have a Central, Ballard, Trinity, Manual Final 4 in the state tourney. That would make all the haters around the state madder than in the 1970's when they pushed busing through in Louisville to stop Shawnee, Central and Male from winning the state every year.
