How About No District Tournament Only Regional

Featured Replies

The idea of a team losing on purpose in the district finals has occurred to me in the not too distant past.

I wish that I can remember the exact specifics, but about 3 or 4 years ago in the 9th Region the 33rd, 34th, and 35th district finals were played on a Friday night, while the 36th final was played on a Saturday night.

Freakishly, In each of the 33rd, 34th, and 35th finals, the team expected to win, lost.

It had me wondering then if it wouldn't have benefited the favorite in the 36th to now go ahead and lose too, to avoid picking one of the district runner-ups, who although they had lost, were still no doubt a stronger threat than the teams that had won their district. It turned out that the stronger team in the 36th did indeed win their district final showing that in this case the shenanigans did not happen.

It was then that I thought that all 4 district finals within a region should be played at the exact same time on the exact same night to avoid even having a team and/or coach ponder such things.

I think that it might've been in the 2012 season.

In the 33rd Cooper beat Boone Co in the district finals.

In the 34th Lloyd beat Dixie in the district finals.

In the 35th Holmes beat CovCath in the district finals.

I believe all three of those victories were unexpected.

Then in the 36th as expected NewCath beat Highlands.
