Explain traditional schools please

In a nutshell, though, they are private schools w/out tuition. They don't have to educate you. If you can't get with the program, hasta la vista. Feel free to go to one of your "home" schools in your designated "Pod".

Which, as I'm sure you can attest to is usually the case. Most good coaches are the same in the classroom and then some. Problem is, burnout happens quick with most who are expected to have the best classroom as well as trying to have the best product on the court and field.

 

Yes, and I've had that happen where they've gotten burned-out on coaching or teaching or both. It is hard to juggle both positions. Early in my career I tried my hand at coaching as many things as I could. Eventually, it came down to which was my primary job and I ended up getting out. However, I always told my coaches that you aren't going to get a raise for winning a big game or because you are entering your 10th season at the school; you are doing it because you love the kids and the game.

I am pretty sure that Jefferson County has a coaching pay scale that keeps it the same for each coach per sport within the county. I would have to guess that "terms" have to deal with the teaching load that they were willing to take on, or lack of willing to take on as the deal breaker. Like I said in an earlier post about coaches & teaching positions, I tried to always get my major athletic teams, the ones that were the money makers for the school & team & who put the most time into those programs, jobs within the building that were less academically stressful, but still received full teacher salary (SAFE Room, EBCD, CO-Op, Credit Recovery, PLATO - classes that didn't require lesson plan prep, minimal grade entry, etc....) If my administration team wasn't willing to move a teacher out of one of these positions for a coach, more times than not I lost that hire due to them wanting an easier job during the day since they were the ones that were closing this place down 2/3/4 nights a week after everyone else had gone home essentially.

 

There is a big difference in time consumption when we are talking about teacher only, teacher & coach, & teacher of one of the programs I mentioned above & coach.

 

Could have been something as simple as the subject they wanted him to teach or the number of periods he was expected to teach. I'm pretty sure most basketball coaches in JCPS are teaching in the classroom.

Just not the same Male anymore, they think so and that is part of the problem. Expectations are really high, region is tough, you're not getting all your kids and nothing you can do about it, all make it less desirable that most people think. GoHITP hit the nail on the head in previous thread. Lost best 3-4 kids last year and losing them agian this year so that makes your freshmen and sophomore classes down compared to others. You are in a great district that is one of positives I think. Great alumin another bonus.

 

The "Great alumni another bonus" cuts both ways. I had kids go to Male, some played sports there and some not. Great school and when Coach Redman was the FB coach you could not ask for a better experience from the alumni as they supported the school well without interference. Redman would not allow it. However, I have always heard a problem for coaches at Male includes the interference or just plain meddling of the alumni. I do not know that for certain, but the perception exists that a coach will have some alumni or booster issues that other places do not exist.

Ouch that would be anothe reason why people might be saying "no" run away as fast as you can

Word in Jefferson County is that two open jobs have been filled and they are sort of related....Former Shawnee Coach Miquel Coleman who was discussed as leaving Shawnee earlier in this post has been named the Jeffersontown coach while the Shawnee job he left has been filled with Coach Kevin Geary, an assistant at Doss for multiple seasons. This has been reported by Jason Frakes of the Courier Journal so likely official at this point.
