Would be high time for Fulton City and Fulton County to consolidate and become Fulton Central HS. Both athletic programs have become low on the totem pole over recent years. I guess the resistance to this has come from the Fulton City side.

While it may make sense for sports reasons for Fulton City and Fulton County to merge, it may be that the powers that be would base such decisions on factors other than sports.

As small as Fulton County is I don't know why they wouldn't want to do it. Small county with very small towns. It would have to be cheaper for transportation and staffing if nothing else.

They should do it based on MUCH MORE than just sports. Though I didn't state that in my original post, yes there are many reasons to do it, sports being a piece of that pie but not the biggest or most important.

Unless both schools are having problems financially, I don't see it. I don't know what their financial statuses are however. Should be based on that.

You and I are in total agreement. Having not been to Fulton in many, many years (and my past trips there largely involving either the Banana Festival or The Keg), I don't know enough about the schools to know what would be in the best interests of their students.

Admittedly I don't know the inner workings of the school system there either. However, I do know it's a very poor county that supports two different school systems and all that comes with that. It would seem to make sense combining the two would save money and be in some ways beneficial to the community. However I'm quite sure some would find a lot wrong with consolidation as well.

That's possible. Transportation costs might rise some. Then probably either have to build a new school (which probably isn't a bad thing) or re-furbish/expand one of the existing schools. But, if costs savings is a main argument for many of the past school consolidations, which it has been, then not sure how this one wouldn't be. Always that possibility I supposed though.

Fulton city resisted combining schools because it would be a merger and not a consolidation. County would have control over everything.

City is an independent school.

 

I will say I think it will happen before too long.

No intent to offend anyone, although I'm sure it will, but that has to be the weakest district in the state.

 

Carlisle has a very strong tradition. The others are up and down through the years.

I was reading on Facebook that Lynn Camp is open now. Not sure why Eric Swords is out and it clearly was not a popular decision based on the comments.
