Jim Schue
We had at least one in Nelson County cancel their evening Mass — which is as Catholic as any place in NoKy, just so's you know — and I couldn't help but wondering how many others there were out there. It just struck me as weird that any Catholic church would cancel Ash Wednesday services.
Irish Cat
It was business as usual at my church in Owensboro, however, I was expecting a full house as it normally is for the 6:00 P.M service but attendance was sparse, maybe about 1/3 of the church was full. MentschTrachtGottLacht
.... Went to our 5:30 PM service last evening and the church was PACKED. I had told someone coming with me that I only expected about 30-50 people, and walked into a service as crowded as any non C & E Sunday morning. nkypete
I attended 6:15am at St. Anthony's in Taylor Mill. 15 people or so. I was first in line to get ashes. The priest blessed the ashes with holy water and absolutely nailed me on my forehead! The consistency was like mud. It was very visible all day. #ashtag

It just struck me as weird that any Catholic church would cancel Ash Wednesday services. The only justification I can think of is that they cancelled because Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation. Strange, either way. But I don't know because I've been to Mass once where I was the ONLY person in attendance - just the priest and I. I've always wondered if he would have celebrated the Mass if I hadn't showed up. BigVMan23
My church (independent Christian) cancelled last night, which is the first Wednesday or Sunday service anyone can remember being cancelled. Our previous pastor NEVER cancelled, and he was there about 30 years. His eldest son, who in now the pastor and has been for about the last year is a little more lenient about cancelling services for bad weather. We are out in the county and it can be pretty hazardous. But last night was dinner night and men's business meetings, no regular service so probably made the decision to cancel a little easier.
