Could be a change in administration, AD, unhappy big funding booster or anything political. He also could have been making unreasonable demands, etc. I will give him the benefit of the doubt until I know the (if I ever do) the whole story. Happens all the time.

Tom Arth was an up and coming coach at the time -- spent 3 years in Indianapolis for the Colts as a player and is a very popular JCU alum. He's been outstanding as a coach at JCU since the hire. I feel like JCU knew they had a star in Arth with his work as the OC. After the National Semifinal Appearance in 2002 (with Arth at QB), JCU had TWO 7-3 seasons (2003 and 2005) and went 3-7 in 2009, losing to Thomas More in the Opener. They were trending up with two 5-5 seasons in 2010 and 2011 before the 6-4 season in Scafe's final year. To me, the time to fire him would've been after 2009, but Arth wasn't on staff at that point. I believe he came aboard in 2010. Those years also coincided with Ohio Northern (under Dean Paul) and Otterbein rising as National Contenders -- as they were 2nd place OAC teams (an automatic two team bid league in D3)

February 19, 201511 yr The HC for my son's college team tweeted out immediately after the hire saying TM couldn't have made a better choice. I do know that the coach has nothing but the utmost respect from all the coaches in the Northern Ohio area from both High School and College. They say it was a grand slam hire and Thomas More should be thrilled with getting someone as good as Regis Scafe
February 23, 201511 yr Author Wow. Going to have his work cut out for him with no ties to the NKY/Cincy area. And 88-56 isn't exactly lighting it up. Except that 88-56 was in the tough OAC (#2 conference in all of D3). All he has to do is beat W&J at Thomas More -- something they haven't done in three years. Who says no ties to the area? He recruited the GCL and Cincinnati for John Carroll University. He isn't as well versed as someone who's lived here for years is... but he has Assistants he can keep on staff who HAVE recruited the area. Remember, its not just the HC doing the recruiting.

February 23, 201511 yr Was Scafe the HC while London Fletcher was at John Carroll? Doesn't look like it. Fletcher's last year with JCU was 1997 (debuted with the Rams in 1998) and Scafe's first year was 1998. Looks like they missed each other by one year.

I really like the potential of the younger of these two QB's... you need a special QB, a D1-type to excel in D3 come playoff time. Scafe had that at JCU and went to the National Semifinals in 2002 with him (lost to Mount Union twice that year).

February 24, 201511 yr I look for Kuntz to compete for the starting job next year, kid can flat out spin the ball I think he will win the starting job. Not to many kids work as hard as he has. He over 210 pounds now and I believe 6'5.
