Guru and I talked about what Thomas More needs to get over the hump. Well THIS hire... this Coach had success in the OAC and although he didn't beat Mount Union, he did come very close a few times. His teams play hard-nosed defense and he knows the formula to win at both the D3 level and in one of the Best Conferences in the Country while developing his players academically.

With President Armstrong and Coach Scafe both having spent time at small Catholic Liberal Arts Colleges in the Cleveland area, these two should have a great relationship.

I honestly thought TMC would be looking at coordinators at the D3 level, including Coach Stellman and a certain DC at a big name (for D3 school) in Indiana.. this hiring is a coup.

The proud football alums from Thomas More are going to be very excited at the product Regis Scafe puts on the field. Look for Thomas More to continue to do well with the Cincy market and additionally make inroads in the Catholic schools within a 350 mile radius of Cincinnati. John Carroll also was able to recruit kids from Florida under Scafe -- something that really hasn't been done at TMC. And had kids from schools in Chicago, Buffalo NY as well as Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

Congrats to TMC and Coach Scafe!

Thanks for posting JU and congrats Coach Scafe and Thomas More.

Also, where was the new coach at in 2013 and 2014?

Now the rest of the story...

Former John Carroll University head football coach Regis Scafe has sued the University for age discrimination in a lawsuit that is set to go to trial in February in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, court records show.

Scafe, 63, was fired by the University just over a year ago, on Nov. 15, 2012, following the team’s 6-4 season. Scafe had been at the helm of the team for 14 years, compiling a career record of 88 wins and 56 losses. He was replaced on Dec. 5, 2012 by Tom Arth, 32, a former All-American quarterback for the Blue Streaks who went on to play for the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. Arth also served an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for the Blue Streaks from 2010 to 2012.

The JCU football team, ranked No. 9 nationally in Division III, went 9-1 this season, their first year under Arth, earning an at-large bid last Sunday for the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Blue Streaks will host No. 25 St. John Fisher on Saturday at Don Shula Stadium.

Before the season began, on Feb. 6, Scafe filed his lawsuit against JCU, alleging that the University replaced him with a “younger, less qualified individual,” among other claims. In court papers, the University denied the “less qualified” part of the allegation.

He coached at the International Federation of American Football development camp in Arlington, Texas. I think I saw this in the release but there was a game held at AT&T Stadium as well.

The TMC Release doesn't mention him Coaching LB's at Notre Dame College prior to this hire. Thats where David Armstrong came from, I believe.

JU, do you know how the age discrimination lawsuit turned out?

No sir, I do not. Typically, those lawsuits are sealed and the parties sign confidentiality agreements if there is a settlement. If there's no decision available online, it would tell me there was a settlement.

Takes a little of the shine off the new hire...

A proven winner in DIII is a plus and perfect hire IMO. Good luck!

Even if the powers that be at that school decided to go in another direction? And going in that other direction was apparently without cause considering he filed suit.

Good luck is right.
