Blue Colonels came out flat. Red Colonels came out poised. I thought Schu only CCH player ready to play early on.

CVH did not look like normal self. CCH did not bump Dixie off their diagonal cuts. Too many trailing defenders.

Defense needed to get CCH back in game. Never happened. Congrats Shreck, Bolin, Hedger - N.KY Bulldogs.

Impressive win and congrats to the Dixie Heights Colonels who were up by as much as 21. cch chipped the margin to 9 in the 4th when Dixie was able to break the full court pressure enough, and make enough free throws to keep the margin in double digits. The Dixie defense got long and covered a lot of court. Bolin, Hedger and Shreck enjoyed themselves in the paint and hats off to Rabe and Moore who did well taking care of the basketball. Dixie is not a good match up for cch.

 

Would have never figured cch to be stymied by a 2-3 zone. Now we know what the Dixie Heights Colonels are capable of...if they can improve their free throw shooting, they could have a nice run. Although there's probably 5 teams capable of a nice tourney run! Going to be fun watching how these next few weeks play out. :thumb:

How is it an excuse? Its fully admitting that the team was simply not ready to play. I don't see any implications of "We should've/would've won."

I imagine that you suffered the biggest headache than anyone over it knowing that people had know idea that it wasn't your fault.

The vast majority of time "came out flat" is used, it is where a team is clearly outmanned and they get dominated. But the term insinuates if we only had been more pumped up the game would be very different. I don't like the term because it is a term of arrogance and/or failure to admit the other team was better (at least on that night). It is a little like saying they got lucky, or we didn''t really care about winning that one, etc. I don't like the term because it is a backhanded way of discrediting the winning team and it is very over used. (PLEASE NOTE ... I am not saying Dixie has more talent or outmanned CCH ... I am just explaining my thoughts on what is usually the case when "came out flat" is used).

 

Dixie is 16-3 in their last 19 games. They are good. They put together a good game plan and executed, the things that CCH usually does to get wins. Dixie outplayed, out executed and outcoached CCH and didn't get the win just because CCH "came out flat" or "didn't care" or ....

 

That is why it is an excuse.

In no way was I making an excuse . . "came out flat". It was my observation of the game, as was my comment Dixie came out poised.

Friday the 13th?....I hadn't thought of that...you might be on to something there. The Blue Colonels might've been effected by that too. :idunno:

Prior to the game I told my brother CCH seems flat first quarter lately but always finds inspiration and recovers. Sure enough flat they were, recovery came too late. Dixie played great and are tournament ready. The prize is a big one so it is time for 32 minutes of ready for all teams. Good luck in District and Regions. This year is a good one for fans of the game!

No matter how well CovCath has played this season, from the opening tip they just didn't look like themselves, while Dixie looked like a tall poised polished team playing with utmost confidence.

 

While the Blue Colonels looked lost in how to penetrate Dixie's zone, so was I because it looked locked up at every angle, and when it came time to rebound all I could see were a sea of Red Colonel arms and hands up higher at the boards as if adults were playing kids. It didn't hurt Dixie at all that they were connecting on their shots, and that CovCath had little to no effect in stopping them. The wounds were getting cut deep, early and often.

 

If these two teams were to meet again in the 9th Region tournament, I still don't know exactly what the Blue Colonels could do to erase the height advantage that Dixie has unless they immediately get them into foul trouble, and that's a lot to tackle entering a game when the trees are everywhere. Even from where I was sitting the forest looked daunting and impenetrable.

 

We've all seen it before where when same teams meet that the outcome can be so very different, and we all have respect for Coach Ruthsatz and know that he's probably not stopped thinking about a potential different approach in the event of a rematch. That's why he's the coach and I'm not, because I honestly don't know what could be done for a better outcome.

 

Judging by what we saw of Dixie in that one game, they looked like the deal, and no question a team poised to be cutting down nets. I've been waiting all season for them to get a signature win to prove themselves, and shut my mouth, they most certainly did, and not bad timing either going into post season play.

 

Anyone who has doubted them earlier on can cease and desist that kind of talk immediately. They've joined the party in a big resounding way.

 

The rating system now to me looks something like this:

But remember Holmes just beat Dixie last week. :idunno:

Most of the time "coming out flat" equates to not having a healthy respect for your opppnent. I do think teams defnitely come out flat. That's often when upsets occur and when that happens, it makes sporting contests all that more compelling. It should not be used as an excuse. The mental aspect of sports is nearly as important as the physical. If you're not prepared mentally, shame on you. You just lost to a better team that game. End of story.

I was at the CCH/Newport game the night before and CCH looked pretty lackluster that night too.

Coach Ruthsatz was plain and simply out coached tonight. His substitution of his players was abysmal. Dixie's zone had not only the CCH players confused, but Ruthsatz was confused as well. Dixie had some big boys, but Ruthsatz countered with a smaller and weaker lineup. Hopefully everyone will learn from this fiasco before the district and regional games.

 

 

I think that Dixie won the strategy battle. CovCath isn't very big and they made themselves smaller and Dixie killed them inside.

 

There seems to be some real bad body language amongst the CovCath team. SOme of the players seem to really get a lot of flack from the staff when they come off the floor.
