For that matter, also a Mr. Basketball and a Mr. Basketball runner up who missed out only because Ervin Stepp averaged 54 points per game (something that I don't think would happen again - see Erin Boley vs Whitney Creech debate). I still consider those Holmes teams to have played the best besketball in the history of NKY.

Assuming this username is your first username on here I can easily see how my post could make you think what you think. We see it too often on here from frustrated fans.

 

However, my history tells everyone else something different. In no way have I discounted what NCC did last night. If you listened to the broadcast you would have heard nothing but praise for this NCC team from the get-go. If you have read my numerous posts you would see that not many were as high on Ben Weyer as I was after seeing him play his frosh year. You would also see me praise Hall as one of the top SOPHS in NKY (in a loaded class). I said it last night at the beginning of the broadcast - he was going to be a load for CCH to handle. Unfortunately, I was correct.

 

My post's brevity opened me up to your criticism for those that are unfamiliar with me. I get that.

 

What the post says has nothing to do with this year's team. What it does say is that there is going to be a much greater separation between these two teams over the next couple of years. I started a thread a while back asking if this was NCC's last chance for a while to get CCH. I truly believe it is/was and NCC did. NCC is IMO at the end of a great run of an abundance of talent on the Hill. Yes, they will be good. Will they contend? I don't think so. CCH just has too much talent NOW and coming along. Yes, I know NCC will always get good players and yes I know there is a possibility they get one of the top players in his class to enroll but I'll stand by my contention.

OK I am going to add some levity to this. I am going to make another reference to Dicky Beal's years at Holmes and point out that the games at Covington Catholic, before they were known as the "crazies" I saw some things for the first time. I remember distinctly the student section turning their back on player introductions, breaking out newspapers during player introductions, and a huge banner put up one time about Dicky, but I can't remember exactly what it said. Just wondering if anybody remembers that and can refresh my memory about what it said.

The problem in Kentucky is that there is no divisions like in Ohio. You really cant think that a 230 boys student enrollment should compete with a 600 or 1000 student enrollment school. It happens every once in a while but percentages are with the big schools. So yes your 6A schools and 5A schools with always have the advantage.

 

I disagree with you. Lack of a divisions is not a problem. It's what makes KY HS basketball special. And say what you want, but there are several smaller schools that compete for the State Title every year. It takes the right combination of players, coaches, skill, and luck to win the State Title. It's not often that one or two schools dominate the State and play for the title.

I can't think of a player since Dicky Beal where it was an event to go watch. He drew fans from all over to watch him go.

Kudos to NC. This was their last chance for a while and they took great advantage of it.

You know were my loyalty lies, but I would agree with @Clyde, solely based on NewCath's lack of a dominate big man, although the jury is still out on Wurtz and Soph. Brenden Luken. Also, CovCath has some very strong classes now and coming up from the grade school ranks. NewCath will be in the mix for sure, but as STRONG as the last 4-5 years?????? However, you still have to play the game, and anything can happen.
