Brady gives his MVP car to Malcolm Butler

What if Russell Wilson or Pete Carroll had awaken this morning, walked outside, and that vehicle was in their driveway with a bow around it?

No one here would believe it.

Tom Brady ?would love? to give Malcolm Butler truck that came with Super Bowl MVP | ProFootballTalk

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time in his career on Sunday night, an award that came with a big red truck as a prize.

Judging from paparazzi photos of Brady over the years, he’s not lacking for transportation options to shuttle him around in his day-to-day life so he might find another use for this new set of wheels. During an interview on the Dennis & Callahan show on WEEI Tuesday, Brady talked about the “play of our season” that cornerback Malcolm Butler made to intercept Russell Wilson late in the fourth quarter and was asked if he might reward the undrafted rookie with the keys to the truck.

“I would love to give him the truck. I would love to do that. I’m going to figure out how to make that work,” Brady said.

There are procedural steps associated with gifting a car to someone, although we’d imagine that Brady has a few lawyers and accountants he can ring up to make sure that things are handled as well as Butler, who has already taken the Disney trip normally associated with the Super Bowl MVP, handled his moment in the spotlight on Sunday.

Really cool move, and I literally hate to be that guy, but can't help but think the league minimum is what? 400k? Would take most Americans 5-10 years to make that. Give it to someone truly in need.

Like the guy who deflated the balls? :D

His salary this year was prorated. He still was active for 13 games and gets a playoff bonus. However, if he gets cut in the offseason, its a nice gift to have.

No way! And you are off base on this one for more than one reason.

"Butler, a rookie, made $585,000 this past season."

Dude can buy his own 35k truck. Even if he made that this one season and never again he should be GTG on a vehicle! Donate it to a local charity, who REALLY needs it!

Want to make a precedent and still be that guy to your teammates, give him a Rolex.

We can agree to disagree, and like I said, the gesture is cool. That's about where the coolness ends....

BTW, Brady didn't even accept the truck and then give it to him. Meaning Brady pays the tax on it. He set it up with Chevy so the truck which straight to Butler, who now has to claim the 35k as income and pay tax on it.

Would you take that deal?

I saw where total taxes would have been close to $21,000 for Brady to give it away. Butler will pay far far less based on not having a gift tax involved which alone was going to cost Brady quite a bit.

Did he let the air out of the tires first?
