January 27, 201511 yr Would have liked t see her go bigger but I'm sure her inner circle has a plan for a date TBD.
January 27, 201511 yr She has plenty of name recognition, I think she will do well running for the office. I think she would be a factor if she ran for Governor.
January 27, 201511 yr This is the best choice for now, and the always at top of her list. If she didn't run for U.S. Senate, or the governor's race was in 2016, then maybe a run for governor, Conway has a great relationship with the family and he is well on his way in his campaign, so running for governor really wasn't a serious thought. She has done a number of things to help Kentuckians already, so continuing her present job is the best choice for now. If she's so happy in that job then why the run for the Senate? There are no altruistic motives here. Lets be honest here all politicians, and Grimes is a politician from birth apparently, will seek the position where they feel they will have to most power and ability for self-aggrandizement. Right now Grimes and her machine feel it is her and the Democratic party's best interest for Conway to face token opposition in a primary and be anointed the Democratic candidate for governor. Grimes is going to try to make a name for herself by fighting Rand Paul on getting on the Presidential ballot in Kentucky while running for re-election as Senator like Dem. Joe Liberman did a few years ago. There's also word that Beshear's son want to run for AG so ALG wasn't given that option.
January 27, 201511 yr This might be the best move for her. Not sure she'll be able to recovery nationally from such a miserable showing in November. I think the fact that Mitch won as easily as he did is a testament to just how terrible a candidate Grimes was/is. The state was definitely wanting any excuse to oust Mitch, and the best they could do was Grimes? Major fail.
January 27, 201511 yr Grimes entire campaign was "I'm not Mitch". Her looks could only carry her so far. I think it's likely that Ashley Judd and Heather French-Henry saw the writing on the wall and that's the reason 3rd choice Grimes ended up n the ballot.
January 27, 201511 yr The state was definitely wanting any excuse to oust Mitch. Did it really? While there was a fair number of people who were getting tired of Mitch on the ballot, I think even more felt while he may not be perfect, he fits my views close enough and small state KY will finally have a little bit more influence in DC. Granted you could argue that all states get equal representation in the Senate, it is the House where small states could use some help but still, Mitch was the best we had since Sen Ford and Barkley. Despite all the Ditch Mitch rhetoric and goof ball Curtis Morrison audio recording Mitch in his campaign office, I think most in KY were atleast content with him and went along with him. If Obama was not in office, I think Allison or any other Dem could put up a better fight but with Obama in office, most in KY did not want to send him someone who may become an ally of his.

January 28, 201511 yr Part of her name recognition is getting throttled by an unpopular candidate. When it comes to name recognition that doesn't neccessarily hurt her chances.

I think it's likely that Ashley Judd and Heather French-Henry saw the writing on the wall and that's the reason 3rd choice Grimes ended up n the ballot. She better be running on her abilities because her looks are not an asset, IMO.
January 29, 201511 yr Does her run against Senator McConnell hurt her, help her, or have no bearing on her re-election campaign for Secretary of State? Personally I thought her campaign she ran against Mitch was disgusting and full of lies. I really lost a lot of respect for her during that campaign. If she runs for Governor she will not have my vote. A big reason she won't have my vote is I felt she quit on the state when she was elected to office and abandoned it right off the bat to run for senate. I fell she is just using the governor's position as a stepping stone to something national and I have zero respect for that type of politician.
January 29, 201511 yr She better be running on her abilities because her looks are not an asset, IMO. I started to like your post (because I want to be like Spindoc), but then I thought about it. I wonder if she was actually hot, that this would be a detriment to obtaining women's votes?
January 29, 201511 yr She better be running on her abilities because her looks are not an asset, IMO. What do her looks have to do with anything? Have you seen some of the old, wrinkled up men running Washington?!
January 29, 201511 yr What do her looks have to do with anything? Have you seen some of the old, wrinkled up men running Washington?! Unfortunately there is definitely a double stadard in voting. Attractive women generally do better in races than non attractive women. Oddly enough, this is even true with women voters, not just men which seems odd. This favoritism towards attractive candidates doesn't seem to be the case as much with men. However, it was noted in his first race for president, Bill Clinton did incredibly well with women voters and some political scientists feel his looks may have come into play. In the last Senate race I voted for a guy many say looks like a turtle versus the attractive lady so I guess it doesn't affect me 100% - LOL. Also in Louisville, there is a judge he has been elected several times who is quite attractive and many have speculated her appearance had quite a bit to do with her being elected. The first two times I did not vote for her, this last time I did since there was something about her opponent's past that concerned me, I don't recall what that was though.
