January 29, 201511 yr Mitch vs. Grimes had zilch to do about looks and everything to do about Obama. And we finally agree on something. It has to say something that as unpopular as McConnell is Obama and his policies are more so. Although someone on the Dem side must have thought looks could help, if they didn't then Ashley Judd or Heather French-Henry would never have been considered because all they brought to the table were their looks. At least Grimes brought some government experience with her.
January 29, 201511 yr Unfortunately there is definitely a double stadard in voting. Attractive women generally do better in races than non attractive women. Oddly enough, this is even true with women voters, not just men which seems odd. This favoritism towards attractive candidates doesn't seem to be the case as much with men. However, it was noted in his first race for president, Bill Clinton did incredibly well with women voters and some political scientists feel his looks may have come into play. In the last Senate race I voted for a guy many say looks like a turtle versus the attractive lady so I guess it doesn't affect me 100% - LOL. Also in Louisville, there is a judge he has been elected several times who is quite attractive and many have speculated her appearance had quite a bit to do with her being elected. The first two times I did not vote for her, this last time I did since there was something about her opponent's past that concerned me, I don't recall what that was though. Having a father who was a fixture in local politics who threw his political machine behind her didn't hurt either.

January 29, 201511 yr I think that she (and/or her campaign) was severely overmatched against McConnell and iher whole performance came off as a bit amateurish. She needs more seasoning before she can be considered a credible candidate for a meaningful office.

I wonder if she was actually hot, that this would be a detriment to obtaining women's votes? For the record, I don't care what she looks like when I cast my vote. That has nothing to do with the job at hand. What do her looks have to do with anything? Have you seen some of the old, wrinkled up men running Washington?! Nothing at all. I was just responding to All Tell who said "her looks could only take her so far". That puzzled me because I think she looks like Secretariat.

I think it's likely that Ashley Judd and Heather French-Henry saw the writing on the wall and that's the reason 3rd choice Grimes ended up n the ballot. I could see neither of these two public icons have a legitimate chance at running for office. All I can see is Ms. Judd in a grey t-shirt at a Rupp, or the hockey poster....yum, the hockey poster.... Not that I know of, but not one of my very few areas of expertise. The former Miss America that we're talking about grew up in a house behind my wife's family's house.
