June 30, 201610 yr So I've completely reversed course on these things. They suck. Got mine at the very end of October last year. Fast forward to February of this year and the band is starting to bubble up and rip. I contact them, and no questions asked, have a brand new one sent to me within a week. Fast forward to the end of April, and the band bubbles up and completely rips on my new one. What a crap product. If the blasted thing can't even last more than a couple months what the hell's the point of them. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. What model?
June 30, 201610 yr I have not read through this thread, but I think Fitbits and pedometers are good for those looking for basic activity without much of a fitness baseline. They can also be incredibly misleading. I have a good sense for distances having run a bunch, and when people come by and tell me they "walked 9 miles" today, I politely smile and tell them to keep up the good work. Some have no sense as to how long that would really take, and it can't be accomplished by getting out of your desk chair three times an hour and walking the hallways. But it at least gets people moving that wouldn't normally, so I am all for that.
June 30, 201610 yr I bought my daughter a Garmin Vivofit and she really likes it. I have the vivosmart hr. Tracks everything, easy to use, even does a decent job of tracking heart rate.
June 30, 201610 yr I've thought they were a gimmick ever since I was given one a couple years ago. The one I had only tracked steps (pretty pointless IMO), and I don't feel like that was even accurate.

As to the bolded, I've been back to walking quite a bit for the past few months on our street. I get in about 7 miles per day & it takes me somewhere between 1 hr 35 mins - 1hr 45 mins.
July 1, 201610 yr I have a knock off fit bit and it was motivating, but it was incredibly awkward to wear. I have really small wrists...the only small thing about me. It just was so clunky and uncomfortable. I try now to make sure I always have one of my phones on me at all time. Awkward yet again. But less so. So, I try to map out my walks, using Google maps. That at least gives me a distance goal, and I try to do at least 30 minutes of something strenuous a day. Its not much, but it's better than nothing.

In fact, the Fitbit gives me the extra motivation to not sit, to stay on my feet, to keep moving around, etc. I will typically go 4 hours straight of not sitting at all. I love checking it at the end of my work day to see how many steps I took. Also---I try to avoid elevators because I like getting the extra points in the stairs column. I know all this really makes me look like an idiot. But I'm not getting any younger. Still have young kids at home who need me, and working outside the home. Gotta get the motivation somehow. July 3, 201610 yr I went to a presentation about these last year. It was a study put on by some UofL graduate students and the Fitbit was the most accurate wrist pedometer and HR monitor. Anything that motivates this obese nation is a great idea!

On the plus side they have excellent customer service.
July 4, 201610 yr I climbed 30 flights of stairs yesterday. Pretty amazing since I was on my boat all day. How waterproof are these things?
