My gym isn't too bad as far as CrossFit gyms go. They also give a nice discount to LEO and Firefighters. I think it ends up only costing them $55 a month.

That's considered a good deal?...

Considering most gyms in KY run $125 - $150 per month, absolutely. I pay $85 for mine. I guess it just all depends on what you consider the worth to be.

Is that regular gyms or is that specifically crossfit? I've never seen a regular gym anywhere close to those costs.

I just looked at NewCov CrossFit's site, they charge $140/month with no contract..$115/month with a 12 month contract.

Just CrossFit. Keep in mind that regular gyms make their money based on the fact that the majority of their members don't pay and never show up.

Never understood this. It just tells you how much you walk/exercise so you are more inclined to do more?

Can these things tell the difference between running stairs and running flat ground?

Can it tell if you're running and hitting every step or every other step?

I can't run on flat ground due to bone graft surgery on my femur a few years ago. I can run steps and take it easy coming down.

Thanks.

I believe it can tell elevation levels if you've got it synched with your phone or GPS. Not sure about actual stairs or not, but I'd imagine no.

It does, it shows it as "floors" you've gone up. The problem if you are driving and go up and down hills it will who you've gone up "floors". I went to Louisville the other day and it shows I climbed 11 floors. I guess all the up and down on 64 between Evansville and Louisville.

It won't show actual steps hit though.

Exactly. I think the ones I've looked at would be around 95-100 a month. I guess if I really committed to it it may be worth it. The big thing is figuring out when I could go. I work 6pm-6am so finding a good time when it's open or doing WOD's is tough.

My wife got me the flex today. I'm gonna take it and upgrade to the charge. I want it to have the display on the actual fitbit.

Pretty interested to see how the sleep tracking goes.

I had an UP24 until the ocean ruined it on September 15th. On the 16th purchased a Garmin VivoSmart and I love it.

I've been using a Fitbit for over 2 years now. Started with a Zip then upgraded to a One. I tried to use both Flex and Charge wristbands but neither of them was an accurate step counter when I walked. I would go on 3 mile walks and it would be consistently a quarter of a mile short. The Zip or the One carried in my pocket are dead accurate. From reading Fitbit online forums this looks to be common. The theory is that the lesser arm movement of walking rather then running doesn't work with the wrist band trackers.

That's why I really like the surge. If I go on a walk or run I turn on the GPS.

I want to set a goal for calories per day but I have no idea how many calories you typically burn in a normal day (On a normal day you don't workout). Anyone have any insight on that?

I used this calculator but I have no idea if that kind of thing is accurate at all.
