An excellent speech by the president. An excellent vision for America. Six Supreme Court justices showed up. I didn't do a head count, but it's probably safe to say that the missing three were Scalia, Thomas and Alito.

He can't fool all of the people all of the time. He is an educated man, with excellent speaking skills, who was/is completely not prepared to lead our country to greatness or any other large organization IMO. He make a studied effort to talk to the everymond as if he is one, but this is a fake approach as he has never worked side by side with a normal person. His motivations are unclear, but many suspect of a socialist agenda. What's not to like? He is the Manchurian candidate. If his policies were implemented unabated, he would have brought this country down.

 

I will add....everyone is relishing in the $2.00 current gas price. The lower prices are a result of OPEC dumping, and they will do this until it is no longer profitable to keep wells on line in the US. This point is already reached, and rig counts are dropping dramatically. This is going to drive an economic downturn after which OPEC will ratchet the price back up, and it is expected in the industry that gasoline will be $5.00 per gallon before the end of 2015. His 2016 SOTU might not be so easy.

 

Ridiculous. Please show me where anyone said to expect $5.00/gal gas by the end of 2015. That is not going to happen. As soon as prices go back up, any rigs that were shut down are turned back on.

So it looks like everything the POTUS said last night was true but many facts were slightly exaggerated. e.g. Yes, 11 million jobs added in the past 5 years but he didn't mention the 4 million lost during his first year in office, so there really were only 7 million jobs added during his presidency.

I did not watch. However, I did laugh at the clip I saw on FB this morning where some Republicans gave a derisive cheer/clap when the President said he has no more campaigns to run and he replied "I know because I've won both of them." Who says he can't speak off the top of his head!

There was an article in yhe USA Today yesterday. Former president of Shell says it could happen by early 2016.

Obama's claims are accurate to the points he referenced in most cases, but he didn't always tell the whole story with the numbers which were positive in the time frames he referenced. As usual, he used data that showed the positives in the selected time frames. The Republicans counter with their data that shows the time frames that are convenient to them.

 

Bottom line:

 

The deficit is down significantly, but is likely to not say there by 2022 unless more action is taken.

There still is no data showing if more are health insured than when he took office because all of 2014 data is not in. the 1st 2 quarters appear to be accurate.

There is an increase in manufacturing jobs than 5 years ago, but no where near the levels of 2008 and likely not to get there.

Teenage pregnancy is down and so is the number of abortions.

The sick pay is really difficult to understand because of the multiple ways countries implement and have policies for it.

 

I believe we are better off than when he started in 2008, whether it is long term that is determined by what he and Congress do moving forward.

 

Also, who in the heck really knows what data to pay attention to what is spun by all sides.

In some areas I feel the country's in a better position than we were in 2008, and in many others I feel we're worse off. I'm extremely confident that whomever the sitting President is has no impact on that thought as well.

I agree that when the crude oil price goes back up, it is likely that domestic production will resume at some point. However, it is not like flipping a light switch. There are regulations, applications and permits to close a well, then regulations, applications and permits required to reopen a well in addition to the related costs that must be addressed before the first service unit shows up at the well head. It is usually months to re-open. That is actually why fewer have closed than normal given the price of crude, because it is believed to be a short term dip. Thus, my reasoning for saying that next years SOTU address may not have the same backdrop of cheap gas and more jobs.
