Interesting, as for about a year and a half it seems every night that I drove this area they would have either N/B or S/B closed for closed for 30 minutes at a time as they did any major work over the interstate.

Crazy, I get off the northbound Hopple street exit every day for work.

 

Looked like an absolute mess down there on my in today.

I make special effort to avoid the 75 bridge though. I will never drive on that thing again until it's replaced.

I've taken the 75 Brent Spence Bridge, north and south a million times, and hated doing so a million and one.

 

No more...I go out of my way to avoid it, and swear that I'll never take it again if I can help it, even if I lose time doing so.

 

Aside from not trusting the structure, for years I've always thought that I was taking my life in my hands just navigating it, merging onto it, or switching lanes, and also the unnerving feeling that you are trapped with no emergency lane for any escape if need be.

 

I used to question if I was just a wimp about it, and not a great driver, but with some of the more recent mishaps and what I hear others say, I realize that what my instincts were telling me for years are accurate. The damn bridge is a death trap.

 

It needs to go, and it needed to go long ago.

 

Really disturbing that the powers that be are asleep at the wheel and are dragging their heels.

 

Prove that you are worth the votes you got to put you in charge.

 

Settle the damn deal and get something done.

This only heightens my phobia with bridges. Can't stand to be stopped in traffic on a bridge; especially when I can feel the bridge moving.

UPDATE 12:15 p.m.: The man killed by the bridge collapse was Brandon Carl, 35, of Augusta, Ky. He was inside a backhoe when the bridge collapsed. Airbags were used to lift heavy metal beams off of the backhoe. Carl's body was removed at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, more than four hours after the bridge collapsed. The Ohio Department of Transportation said Kokosing Construction Co, in charge of bridge removal, is doing a 'forensic investigation' of why the bridge collapsed. OSHA also is conducting an investigation. Cincinnati City Manager Harry Black said the city is conducting an investigation into the death. When the initial investigations end, ODOT will remove road debris. Pavement will be assessed to make sure vehicles can use it safely and then make repairs or open I-75 South. That could take two days. They ask motorists to keep using alternative routes until told otherwise.

 

I-75 South traffic is being diverted to I-74 West. I-74 inbound can take I-75 North or get off on Colerain Avenue or Beekman Street and use area streets. Police will man large intersections during rush hour today, police said.

It is tragic anytime, but when you hear it is someone you know personally, it evens makes it more heartbreaking. I pray for the family. The world seems so unjust sometimes.
