Cal has adopted the same concept of Coach K playing very few non conference road games. For teams such as Duke and UK non conference road games make little sense from a financial standpoint or a competitive standpoint. The NCAA tourney is played at neutral sites and the only thing Duke and UK play for is March. If it is so important to UTEP why would they not just come to Rupp?

Hard to acknowledge the 50 year anniversary of the matchup at a different place than where the matchup took place at. Obviously it means more to UTEP and I get it. UK doesn't have to play in the game and they chose not to. Would have been cool if they had but they didn't.
January 15, 201511 yr What are the other non-conf games scheduled next year? Michigan State (champions classic), Ohio State (cbs classic), Louisville, Big 12 game, @UCLA.. UNC is on a two year home and home hiatus due to the cbs classic game the following season.

I get the whole idea of "history was made in that game," however, it was just that, one game. I'm glad the game happened, since it is what essentially started the big time programs to integrate. But for people to act like Kentucky needs to play them, as a road game, is ridiculous. There are several reasons it doesn't make sense for Kentucky sacrifice a road game to lose money and play a team that they would likely destroy.

January 16, 201511 yr Probably higher than one might think. I don't know the percentage, but I believe you are right in that it was much higher than most would like to believe. Kentucky was one of the first major schools to integrate.

Their first black player was on their freshman team that year I believe.
