I often wonder how things would be viewed if UK had lost their semi-final game against Duke. I wonder if the championship game would have had the same historical significance and would Duke have been vilified as UK has.

The pressure is coming from those old folks who are still emotionally hurt by that loss. They don't want to revisit the pain again from the terrible day (Good day if you ask me).

My dad brings this up every time that the game is discussed or if I ever ask him about it. No doubt in his mind, UK wins the game if he's healthy.

For a coach who is outstanding in PR, this is a bad move IMO. Would love to see it played and bring back the guys left from each team to honor them.

I think it would have been pretty neat to have scheduled the game. However, after seeing the way UK was portrayed in the movie I can see why some would be hesitant.

Wildcats team spokespersn Eric Lindsey clarified in an email Thursday morning that, "We didn't back out of anything because we never agreed to play the game. There were discussions about the possibility of playing, but they never materialized past that. It just didn't work out. Next year our schedule is pretty set as far as games away from home.

 

"We're still looking for a couple of games at home, but we didn't have room in the schedule for what we had discussed earlier. We would be open to playing them in future seasons."
