If you are talking about basketball (a reasonable assumption given the thread), you are wildly incorrect. 1970 would in no way make UK "one of the first major schools to integrate." If you are talking about athletes or students generally, please make that clear.

UK makes 700k in revenue per home game. So they should throw that away ? Simple solution UTEP comes plays at Rupp. Calapari has been consistent on non conference road games. A perfect example would be the Indiana series.

How is it facing "the demons of your past?" Assuming the demons are in regards to not allowing black players that's been addressed for 40+ years now.

I was talking about basketball. For some reason I was under the impression that UK recruited and signed a kid the year following the Texas Western game. He was ultimitely charged with rape and kicked off the team. Then I believe some time passed before they tried to integrate again.

You might be thinking of Tom Payne. Played at Shawnee High School in Louisville and came to UK in 1969-70. He did get into trouble and was charged with rape and left after his sophomore season (remember, couldn't play as a freshman back then) to go to the NBA under the old hardship rule. Sadly, he is currently in prison.

To me it sounds like you have an agenda. Why, I have no idea?

 

Kentucky's administration has already said they would be open to scheduling the game in the future, as long as it is a home game. Financially that would be the best option for both schools, as UTEP would no doubt be compensated nicely, just like every other ooc team that comes to play at Rupp is.

 

But for some reason that doesn't work for you, you want the game to be on UTEP's terms and conditions. Guess what, it doesn't work that way when negotiating with any of the blue bloods of college basketball. I won't even get in to the racial undertones or who you suggest is being that way, because your definitely reaching there.

Rupp had recruited Butch Beard from Breckinridge County very hard but had lost out to Louisville. Beard was a freshman in 1966.

I did read up on Beard, he was a great player. Too bad Rupp couldn't get him. Maybe then we wouldn't be the evil racist empire to some.
