Game meant nothing to Scott. Brad is giving a lesson to the boys.

 

I have known Brad for over 30yrs...every game matters to him!!!

Does that make it right? And it is supossed to b ea job in HS?

Can I use this approach on my 7-8th grade combo cut team as well? Hey, they do it in HS and college so it must be the way to coach.

High school is where you prepare young men and women for what lies ahead in life. Being demanding and "in your face" are things they need to be prepared for after high school, whether it's in a job setting, college athletics, etc... I'm quite sure Brad isn't doing this just to be a "control freak" or anything like that. I'm sure he wants nothing but the best for his players, on and off the court.

 

I had one of the biggest "son of a........coaches in high school, he had no problem making an example out of you in front of the whole team when you didn't listen or screwed up, however, he would let you know why he did what he did. Did it irritate me.....hell yes, but he had every reason to do what he did, and I worked hard to correct it. I didn't curl up in a ball and cry for my mommy. I learned more than just baseball from this man.

 

I do the same with the girls on the NewCath softball team, however I STRESS, "if I ever have to raise my voice at you DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONAL, it's because you are doing something that you have been told over and over, but just not getting". It happens very rarely, and it's not anything I enjoy having to do, but sometimes it can get frustrating repeating the same thing over and over. Also, I give them all kinds of praise, ALWAYS, when warranted.

 

The kid gloves come off once you enter high school in my opinion.

I remember quite a few years ago at David Evans Fieldhouse, the Bulldogs stank up the court in the first half of a game. Reynolds Flynn was so upset he did not take his team in at halftime. He held a practice the entire halftime intermission. Seems to me he also did the same right after a game the Bulldogs had lost.

I agree with all of the bolded parts of your post. Especially the last one.:lol2:

Problem is a lot of parents don't see it this way and feel little Johnny is getting picked on. Things have changed since the days of way back when we were in HS. Kids are entitled are parents are doing it.

This thread has morphed into questioning coach Carr style. Just for the record, I have no dog in the fight. I root for Dawgs at the bottom of the hill, from an entire different region, so it doesn't really matter to me how many games Scott wins. What I can say about coach Carr style is that when my friends and I go to Scott's games part of the experience is watching the Carr show. I do not know coach Carr overall record and I don't really think winning the district half a dozen times makes you a good coach. I am sure everyone here understands that each generation is different from the previous, so with all that said....does coach Carr style really work with today's kids? For that matter, does it really work at any level now? I have no stats to back up my opinion and to be clear I equal coach Carr style to be similar to Bob Knight. Not saying good or bad and not meaning that he is abusive to any players.

Difference between berating one player and berating every player. When you do it every single time someone comes off the floor, kids stop listening.

 

Sounds like you are not a Brad Carr fan.

They need a big guy inside . They also need more intensity on defense. They play Campbell County at the end of the week . That one could get ugly for the Eagles.

Well they don't have a big guy, can't fix that. Intensity on defense, Carr will fix that. Ugly at the end of the week? Scott wins by 8.

I tend to agree with this. Only for this reason i do think Coach Carr Gets the best out of his players but however the pressing run and gun style i believe has helped them win some big games but caused them to lose to teams they have no business losing to. As a coach you are dealt a deck of cards and sometimes as a coach you have to adjust to what hand your dealt. Coach Carr has one style and no i dont believe it has changed at all. His personality has changed a little but style has remained the same. I believe not changing up schemes and styles has made the program inconsistant over the years. I really believe they have had the talent there to win the region a few times but sometimes coaches must adjust to players not players adjusting to coaches styles. If i have two post players and strong guards with not much speed i am not going to be a pressing and running team. Works the opposite way if i have 4 guards and 1 undersized post player im not looking to rest in a half court game. Would love to see the Eagles win it they have the talent there.
