Play-Doh in Hot Water Over Controversial Shape of Toy

Play-Doh in hot water over suggestive children?s toy - NY Daily News

Outraged parents have claimed that the clear plastic extruder of Play-Doh's Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset resembles a sex toy and isn't suitable for children. To add insult to injury, Play-Doh has been deleting comments and photos from its official Facebook page.

Play-D'oh!

Play-Doh's Sweet Shoppe Cake Mountain Playset says it's suitable for ages 3 and up — but one of its pieces should be for adults only.

The children's company, which is owned by toy giant Hasbro, is facing backlash for its frosting extruder, a clear plastic shaft that unfortunately resembles something that has nothing to do with cake.

Many parents have been taking to the company's Facebook wall complaining of the X-rated shape of the frosting extruder that some said resembled a "dil-doh."

"What was the concept of this?" one outraged parent wrote, posting an accompanying picture of the suggestive toy. "Why couldn't this be in another form or shape?"

Another user complained that the clear plastic extruder "completely ruined our Christmas," while others were livid that their images featuring the plastic product were systematically deleted from Play-Doh's Facebook page, apparently as damage control for the family-unfriendly accessory.

"(We) are in the process of updating all future Play-Doh products with a different tool," the company wrote Tuesday afternoon," prompting those who purchased the playset to call Hasbro's customer service department.

The company did not immediately return the Daily News' request for comment.

According to Uproxx, which first spotted the holiday hysteria over the extruder, the Candy Mountain playset has been around since the late fall, but has caused a stir because many children received the set for the holidays.

This product has had record sales in the female 18-45 demographic.

Wow. No way they could be that dumb, right?

Honestly, a kid who likes playdoh is not going to recognize this part as anything but what it's designed for.

The kid would probably be suspicious when his mom and dad busted out laughing every time he was playing though. That could lead to a complex.

So, when did Hasbro hire Larry Flint as a product designer?:idunno:

There are some seriously overly-sensitive people in this world.

You would think someone at Hasbro would have seen the resemblence and caught it before it went in to production.

That's exactly what I thought a "frosting extruder" would look like.

I saw where someone posted a picture with the frosting being pushed out. Even funnier...

We can only hope that 2015 will bring us a respite from some of these stories.

That looks like something my wi...........nevermind.

They should charge double for this toy. 3 year old Sally can play with it during the day and Sally's mom can ..... after Sally goes to sleep...

I am usually the first to scoff at parents' over reacting when it comes to their kids, but I can see why it would disturbing to watch children play with that thing. If it were my,kids, they would probably be puzzled as to why mom and dad giggled every time they played with their Play Doh.

I cannot believe no one at Hasbro thought about this one when developing that toy, and it actually got to the stores before anybody noticed.

I think it is hilarious and no harm done. They can certainly repackage it and sell it to a different target audience.
