Ervin and Gary were monsters during summer pickup games. Ervin was always open and he didn't need anyone to tell him he had the green light, he knew it. If he ended up on the same team with Todd May you may as well hang out on one end and watch.

Just out of curiosity, what was the Kingdom Come mascot/nickname?

 

I remember one of my golfing buddies, he's in his mid 70s now, talking about playing at Kingdom Come, and if I'm not mistaken he said the gym was located on a second level of a building and there were chimneys on each end of the floor directly behind the baskets. He said when a player went in for a layup he had to put on the brakes fast to avoid crashing into the brick chimney, lol.

 

Wouldn't be a shocker if it was Wildcats.

I was told that Kingdom Come once had a player who's last name was Shepherd (possibly spelled Shephard).

They called him the Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come. He later transferred to Carr Creek and played on their 1956 state championship team.

Jack Jennings scored 44 one night against my high school team. I think about 30 of them were directly on me. I was a sophomore and he was a freaking beast and it looked like he wasn't trying too hard.

By the time Jack was a senior in high school the learned that he could plant that large backside in the lane and nobody was going to move him. He was a poor man's Charles Barkley and made it work well over the years.

I've seen Omar Prewitt go for 40 and 21. I've seen Travis Combs of Manchester, OH score 45. I've seen Blake Justice of Peebles, OH score 51. And I've seen Brent Bach break 40 three different times.

In December of 1979, I was covering the Oldham County Colonels for AM 1600 WSTL in the Ashland Invitational - my first radio play-by-play games. During a game I wasn't broadcasting, I watched Earvin "Magic" Stepp from the now-defunct Phelps HS hang 50 plus on the Ashland Tomcats. Ashland - who won the game and won the 16th region that year - tried everything. They doubled him as he came across mid-court. It was an even more amazing display because most of his made shots were jumpers, many beyond what would be the three point line today. Goodness knows what he would have tallied by today's rules. I've been covering HS basketball ever since and have yet to watch a shooting display that even comes close (regardless of the points scored).

I know this a boys thread but I just got to mention the scoring display I witnessed tonight in Falmouth ad Bracken Co Lady Bear Bailey Cummins hung 48 on the Pendleton Co. Last cats. In doing so she broke a school record for most points in a game by a lady bear. :thumb:
