Being two years removed from a NIT first round loss makes this question ridiculous. UK resembles nothing close to a dynasty and someone on this thread actually tried to compare John Wooden with Cal. UK is very good, just not as good as Big Blue Nation believes every year.

That one is on Townes, not Cal. Freaking Freshman in High School know to call time out in that situation. That was a severe brain fart on Townes part, now Cal's.

 

All agree that it's on Townes, but until they change the rule that a HC can't call a TO from the bench, then its on Cal too. Apparently Cal was trying and the officials didn't see/hear him, so it doesn't really matter.

 

But being a coach, I always think they should do their best to bail their player out of a bad situation with a timeout, if they have plenty to spare, in a situation like that.

I was just sitting here thinking about when Tubby left UK and Pitino said it would set the program back 10 years.

 

I'd say it did set the program back 10 years in just the two years that we had Gillespie. Imagine where the program would be had been allowed to stick it out another couple of years. Gives me nightmares.

I certainly wouldn't call it a dynasty since it just has a single win during it - UCONN probably qualifies more than UK. But let's not act like UK has been some group of scrubs either. Yeah, they had the NIT exit. Sandwiched around it have been Elite Eight at worst in every other Cal year, three final fours, a runner-up, and a title.

I was thinking Dick Vitale said that, not Rick. Or did both say it. Either way, it is funny as can be.

 

Can't blame Rick for saying it if you are correct, Tubby was one of his assistants and even when one of your former assistants is coaching a rival, you still speak well of that former assistant.

Different era, different circumstances. In this era if a team goes to multiple final fours in a row it is a dynasty in my opinion. I'll say that over the past 3 years UofL has had a mini dynasty themselves, it's certainly one of, if not the best, 3 years in their program history.

I will say that 10 t0 15 years in Pitino hyperbole talk is really 2 years, so he was correct.

I posted this in the update thread. I'm interested to hear what Louisville fans think. I've only seen him play twice this year.

 

I would love Harrell on my team but make no mistake about it, he doesn't JUST play hard, he's a bit of a head case too. Enough of the "He's more intense than everyone else" talk.

 

I can't help but think of Booker T from the WWE everytime I see Harrell.

From what I could tell, Cal wanted Towns to call timeout, when he didn't, Cal attempted to do it for him, but it was too late. During the stop of play you could read Cals lips telling Towns to call timeout.

 

Imo, it was just another learning experience. Towns should have called timeout himself. He didn't, so Cal attempted to but it was to late for the refs to recognise it.

 

Imo, there is no reason to blame Cal for that. What I gather from it is he was giving a freshman the opportunity to do it himself. He didnt, so Cal used that as a learning experience for Towns. Which is just another reason why he is the best in the biz. However, don't think that Cal wouldn't have called timeout himself if it was an important game.

In the huddle during a stop in play you could see Cal yelling at "Towns" for not calling timeout, that's what makes me think it was possibly Cal giving Towns a learning experience. Ultimately Cal was attempting to call timeout, as was Booker, the refs just happened to miss that. Whether my theory is right or wrong, it worked out as a learning experience for Towns either way. I imagine if he's ever in the same situation again, he calls timeout instead of a baseball pass.
