December 26, 201411 yr Well he's not gonna play CF if that trade is made. Either one could play CF or LF
December 26, 201411 yr Either one could play CF or LF That would be a very nice defensive outfield. That would be an awesome defensive outfield.
December 26, 201411 yr I dont understand the want to dump Chapman so bad. Specifically when the Reds bullpen is crap with him. It's one thing to pay a closer when you're in a pennant race. It's another thing to pay a closer when you're 10 games under .500. Chapman, although exciting to watch, is replaceable. Especially as a closer. If the reds keep Chapman, they might as well put him in the rotation.
December 27, 201411 yr Don't need a bunch of money tied up in a closer on a 75 win team. I agree a closer on a bad team is not as important than on a good team. However, he is not making that much money yet. I would have moved him to a starter last year. I think he is being wasted as a closer. Getting rid of your best pitchers is not going to make the Reds good again. But the Reds are stuck primarily because of the lousy Votto (and BP's) contracts. They would have been much better off trading Votto and possibly BP for prospects when they could and trying to keep the pitching staff intact.

The fact that he is not making much money is exactly what makes him more valuable as a trade chip. They can get a pretty high return for a player that they won't resign anyway. They need to decide if they are going to rebuild or try to make a run at it this season. If they don't think they can contend this year or next they should move him.
December 27, 201411 yr Pretty easy trade to make in my opinion. Closers are much easier to come by that a Gomez type player
December 27, 201411 yr Either one could play CF or LF Then we would have the weakest hitting LFer in history. I still would like to see what he might be able to do at SS. The Cozart train can leave the station at a moment's notice.
December 27, 201411 yr Fine, let someone else move him to a starting role and ruin him. At least the Reds could get some offense out of it.

December 28, 201411 yr So, Billy the new SS? Why would you have to move Billy out of CF? Having Gomez play LF would give you one of the top defensive OFs in baseball without question and solve your LF need.

The Cozart train can leave the station at a moment's notice. Billy or Gomez? Other than lack of power Billy still hit for a better average then Dudwick. If you move Billy to short then you still have a hole in LF. If Cozart can hit .250 can't you live with him because his glove is more than adequate?
December 28, 201411 yr Agreed. Chapman will get $10m in arbitration for 2015 and if the Reds don't want to sign him long term which I don't think they can afford they need to try to trade him now if there is value out there available.
