I should have just walked away (sports parents)

Yep, I should have just loaded up and said noting, especially after the first words out of her mouth were accusing me of having no integrity. That should have ended any conversation right there.

I can relate, and I must admit that I personally don't always have the good sense to keep my mouth shut when someone comes pointing their finger at me with false accusations.

The desire to clarify kicks in, and then I'll find myself trying to be logical with the illogical, ultimately getting me nowhere but in a more escalated heated situation.

After the fact I'll realize that it was a no win situation, because illogical people don't tend to just snap out of their ignorance with the flip of a switch, and typically they're more concerned with their accusations being accurate, and even if they stand corrected they'll typically not even accept the newer more accurate information, for they'll have to eat crow, and they're not likely willing to pick up their knife and fork to do so even if you offer them a tasty sauce to dip it in.

Yep, that's exactly what it was and what ended up happening.

I don't know if I agree with this statement. Part of "integrity" is acting, speaking, and performing in a consistent manner no matter what the circumstances. BigV handled it very well the first time. I would not change a thing. Besides, the kids of the other team don't need a "beat down" as a payment because their parents acted like idiots.

We won't be scheduling them again. I've had 2 run in's with parents two years in a row, one being involved in both "interactions". It's not worth the headache and we can find other teams to schedule.

Did I mention that their A team beat us twice last year? Funny, I don't remember any of their parents coming out of the stands last year and apologizing for beating us.

I sat in front of some parents last night that thought they knew it all too when it came to high school basketball. As soon as one lady yelled "over the back", I knew what I was dealing with. It's best to walk away from situations like that; especially when those weren't any of your kids' parents! Let them ream their own coach. You are never going to change any minds or win any friends in a crowd like that. Sorry you had to take the heat last night!

I coached a girl's 5th grade team. The games were played in small gyms that afforded the parents an up close and personal opportunity to "assist" the coaches and refs. One particularly enthusiastic mother lost it because "nobody is guarding their girl" - - coach, "NOBODY IS GUARDING THEIR GIRL!!!!" I finally leaned back and mentioned to mom that we had switched to a zone defense. Mom then asked "what's a zone defense?"

Coaches should be like refs and get the heck out of there after a game. Middle school is tough due to lack of locker rooms but it is inevitable that emotions are going to run high after any contest, lopsided or not. For a coach to meander close to the stands following any game is a mistake and is only asking for it.

:ohbrother: And there you have it, folks!

I guess they expected your kids to just lay down and let them score. That teaches kids nothing! If you beat me 80-8, that's on ME, not you. I've gotta do a better job of preparing my team for the game.

I bet I heard that statement 100 times last night.

This is 100% correct.

Need Better Administration at the games.

Beauty of things at our school, AD doesnt put up with this stuff, if your a parent and go to confront a coach at any point before, during, after a game, you gone out the door. One time where a no tolerance policy is acceptable. Goes for either team.

Ah, just don't schedule em next year. Tell the coach why, then the ball is in his court and he can address the morons that follow him to games.

Never argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

You should've strutted like Aric Flair and dropped an elbow at center court.
