You think we can overtake out military with semi-autos and revolvers?

I think it would be an absolute blood bath both ways. How many millions of Americans are former military trained, with plenty of capable weapons?

For now, sure. 10 or 20 years down the road, who knows. The left really wants gun confiscation, not gun control.

Actually, the numbers are moving in the favor of gun ownership. For example, looking at polls on banning handguns, the numbers on people who want a ban are consistently dropping. In 1959, 60% favored banning handguns. It hovered around 40% banning handguns from 1975-1999. Since then it has dropped to 25% in favor of a ban. Those saying handguns should not be banned are at 73%.

That poll is on handguns. I think the numbers are even more lopsided if you said all guns. I would guess 5% or less in the US want a ban on all guns. Does anyone know a person who wants a total ban on guns

I know several, boggles my my mind.

I've heard the numbers as well, I hope the trend continues. But, we all know it only takes a few tragedies for the numbers to turn. Sadly there was a school shooting today and I'm sure that it will bring some of the total ban people out of the woodwork.

We've heard this 10 times, if they tried to ban anything it will be "assault rifles."

They don't even know what an assault rifle is. :lol2:

Yes, they will go after military style weapons first. If they are successful, they will go after more. They are never satisfied. Do I think it will happen? That all depends on the changes in the political landscape. Where this country will be on things like guns 10 to 20 years down the road is hard to gauge.

Registration, control, confiscation.

The KKK, Hitler, Mao, Stalin were all good at the steps. Gun control is the tool of brutal governments and organizations.

Try to explain that to a gun control advocate.

There are few things that I feel as strongly about as this subject.

Try to explain that to a gun control advocate.

Most seem to have no knowledge of the dark side of history or humanity. Or they chose to ignore it.

I want to hear more about this upcoming civil war. We know that one side will be made up of God-fearing, gun-toting patriots.

Who will they be fighting?

Maybe those who planned to off Charleston.

Well good luck to them coming door to door to confiscate.

You're assuming that the majority of gun owners would actively resist confiscation to the point of shooting back. You also have to realize that, for example, countries like Australia and Great Britain after passing their gun bans a significant number of firearms weren't turned in. There have been estimations that the British turn-in was about 28% and the Australian turn-in was less than 25%. Yet, there were no shootouts with the police or military. They have complied with the gun control laws. There's a reason for that. People want to live. There may be some resistance here, but let's be honest, the people can't possibly win against the military. We don't have the fire power or the training. I don't care how many retired military there are that would join the fight against the government, we'd lose.

Also, if you think door to door confiscation is impossible in this country, let me take you back to New Orleans, 2005 where gun seizures were carried out without warrant, and in some cases with excessive force.

We will never live in a country where you can't have guns.

Since I believe the above is true, controlling gun ownership is more important, IMO.

I'll say that you're correct.

And to be clear, I'm a card-carrying lefty that is not at all interested in banishing guns.
