I'll say that you're correct.

And to be clear, I'm a card-carrying lefty that is not at all interested in banishing guns.

No one can possibly know what will happen 20, 50, 100 years down the road. No one.

You're assuming that the majority of gun owners would actively resist confiscation to the point of shooting back. You also have to realize that, for example, countries like Australia and Great Britain after passing their gun bans a significant number of firearms weren't turned in. There have been estimations that the British turn-in was about 28% and the Australian turn-in was less than 25%. Yet, there were no shootouts with the police or military. They have complied with the gun control laws. There's a reason for that. People want to live. There may be some resistance here, but let's be honest, the people can't possibly win against the military. We don't have the fire power or the training. I don't care how many retired military there are that would join the fight against the government, we'd lose.

Also, if you think door to door confiscation is impossible in this country, let me take you back to New Orleans, 2005 where gun seizures were carried out without warrant, and in some cases with excessive force.

As 'police' adapt more para-military tactics you have to wonder what they would be the use for it.

This video was concerning. This is how they searched for the Boston Marathon suspects. Very heavy handed and 'ready to deal with anything' searching for 2 persons who were not even known if they were armed. Now if you knew two supposed killers were on the loose what would you do - get your gun and be ready to defend your home. But then its the police - warrentless - who are invading your home - now what? Probably lucky a 'mishap' did not occur during this event.

Blue dog lefty....

From the ground video related to above video.

Side question - What is the guys on the back and on top of the urban assault vehicle aiming at? They are not just at-the-ready - they are aiming and locked in - or want to appear to be.

How would have them go looking for terrorist bombers that had killed and would kill again before this was over? As far as warrant less searches I think I read that almost everyone allowed them in to search and in the end the bomber was hiding on private property.

So how would you have gone about looking for them?

I know you are a smart man but you are crazy if you think everyone in this country is going to hand their weapons and rights over to the government peacefully.

Everyone? Never said that. BUT...look at how people have been okay at losing freedoms little by little over the years. Their reasons range from "if it makes us safer" to "I have nothing to hide" to "I trust my government". If a total gun ban happens in this country, it will happen little by little and slowly over the years. Like I said in a earlier post, never say never.

If they take my guns I guess my jeans would be next.

How do you boil a frog?

Not sure. How did they used to search for at-large criminals before body armour and military-style tactics? I would seem of this was just for the cameras. Their behavior was as if a force of trained assassins was going to to pop out of any window. Hardly the case.

Never say never. So many on the left think the Constitution is just an outdated old piece of paper.

Very outdated.

I guess after they take away guns they'll bring slavery back too.

They (the brothers) still had pipe bombs and did kill another police officer while on the run...I guess if your brother, son, daughter, nephew or niece was a police officer you would want them wearing plain polyester uniform without a bullet resistant vest and carrying a six shot revolver while searching for someone like this.

Or maybe you would prefer they wear shorts and flip flops while carrying a small stick while looking for ACTIVE Terrorist.

Police routinely went door to door looking for escaped criminals throughout all times of our country. This isn't something new.

If that happens, we will ALL already be slaves...even if we are too dumb to figure it out.

As long as polive asked permission and got permission for entering private property u have no problem with what they did. If they entered private property without a warrant I do have a problem.
