In the study he talks about, even black people have preconceived biases against black people. That doesn't mean that they're racist. It just means that we have some preconceived notions in our subconsciousness that make us less trusting, and those come from a number of complex factors.

I do agree with you and your whole post. The problem is that 1.) Holder has almost zero credibility with a large majority of America and 2.) the way he worded it is completely and totally wrong even if his words are taken out of context.

There's going to be a boiling point in the future, where the good cops retire or quit because of the publics unrealistic expectations. When that happens you'll be left with bad cops, lazy cops, inept cops, etc. because of the need to put warm bodies out there. When that happens.... God help us all. Hope I'm dead and gone before that happens. People only think they've seen high crime rates. It'll be every man for themselves.

The whole point is 'subconscious'. By virtue of the definition, you aren't really supposed to be keenly aware of it.

 

Another example in Malcolm Gladwell's Blink is how tall people are more likely to get promotions/achieve more success, all other things held constant. It's not really a conscious thing where people think, he's tall, so he must be a better candidate for this job (that has nothing to do with height), but a complex set of biological processes that are going on (and doing so mostly without people's actually being aware of it).

 

Psychologically, people are just more guarded in dealings with people of opposite races; it doesn't mean they're 'racist' like we think of it, it means that you probably don't have the same shared experiences and comfort level with them as you would people of your own race. Some psychologists even hypothesize that when you make a friend from another race, you still keep lots of the behavior, you only make an exception for that person.

 

Again, doesn't mean anyone's racist, just that talking about subconscious behavior is a little more complex than most people are oversimplifying it here.

Doesn't mean that he's wrong about it. Just means that people see him and shut out the message or believe the exact opposite when there's lots of science that would indicate that they are actually the ones ignorant on the issue.

 

Again, this is coming from someone who isn't a fan of Holder. People can think whatever about him, but it doesn't necessarily mean he's wrong about that.

Joker nobody cares about Gladwells "Blink" or what he thinks....any idiot can write a book, that's been proven. Holder is a stone cold idiot who cannot leave quick enough with his partner in crime Obama. I seriously think they have tried to tear this country apart at the seams. This is the same MO as the Arab Spring movement two years ago that swept the Muslim countries in the Middle East. Something to think about boys..........
