Applying this logic it could be that college football championship has slipped into this category with a set of judges deciding who is in and out.

The committee has set them selves up to look like an absolute joke -- making TCU third last week makes it nearly indefensible to drop them to 5th after winning by 52 points , and there is no way FSU can't get in . So because osu kicks the crap out of a very average Wisconsin team they deserve to jump into the mix ? SNe tezm that looked ho hum against Indiana the previous week , yes they won in very impressive fashion , but unless the committee wants to looks like total idiots they should keep TCU where they were .

Even if the committee doesn't think FSU is one of the best 4 I find it impossible to believe they have the sack to stick to that feeling. So they're in with Bama and OU.

 

The 4th? Wow. We've been hearing they committee likes conference champs so that would favor the Buckeyes.

That's what they should still be using. Take the human element out of the decision as much as possible.

 

I also think that all this confusion is leading up to an 8 team playoff. I don't think there would ever be as much turmoil over a 9th place team being left out of the playoffs as there is with a number 5 or 6.

With an 8 team playoff most of the true contenders for the national title will be in the tournament.

We can all make strong arguments and sensible points until we are blue in the face, but still, Jeff Long's committee will make the call.

 

I can't see this committee moving TCU up to third this last week, only to move them entirely out of the top four this week, after winning by 50+.

 

My top four would be: Florida State (based on being the undefeated defending National Champ and only for that reason), Oregon, Alabama, and Ohio State.

 

I say the committee stands to put a wrench in the Buckeyes hopes and makes it: Oregon, Alabama, TCU, and FSU.

Been saying all year that eventually money was going to play into this. I can see the committee somehow adjusting the rating to ensure a P12/b10 rose bowl, and the sugar bowl be Bama vs FSU or even TCU. I see no way they leave Ohio State out, but they really screwed the pooch last week by moving TCU to 3. Not sure how you drop them 2 spots after winning by 50+ over a FCS opponent, albeit a bad one. Someone's gonna be mad today

I do hope they go with an 8 team playoff. Take the 5 conference champions and the best 3 at large. Each conference can figure out how it crowns its champion and those 5 are in. Then the committee selects the next best 3. If you are not selected in the next best 3, then too bad...you had your chance to win your conference. Committee ranks 1-8 and 1-4 host the first round games (1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5). Then the four winners play just like they do now - rotating bowl games (this year it is the Sugar and Rose).

 

I know some (maybe many) will not like that under an 8 team format that all the conference winners get in. I think they should as then every team in the top 5 power conferences has a shot to win the national championship. They cannot have it taken away from them by a "committee". You win your conference, you are in. If you don't, you still may have a chance but are then at the whim of the committee (picking the 3 at large teams).

Jeff Long grew up about one hour from Columbus, Ohio. Whether he wanted to be or not, he had to be a little bit of an Ohio State fan as a youngster. I know this from personal experience.

 

If Jeff doesn't put his home state Buckeyes in the top 4, he might not ever be able to go back to Kettering and visit friends and family.

I have always been a 8 team playoff fan from the beginning. I don't agree with taking 1 team from the conference winners though because many conferences have multiple teams better than the best team from other conferences. Just take the top 8 teams period.

Very interesting to say the least. All 3 of the last ones in having bad wins recently. TCU struggling with Kansas. Baylor with Tx Tech.

Whatever the outcome come 12:30 today, one thing is garunteed. 2 of these 3 teams will be pretty upset and actually have a good reason to.
