We have attended 2 Trinity-Dixie footballs games in the playoffs - one was a win and one was a lose. Dixie 2014 has had a great year and we will be cheering them on Saturday night.

I agree 100% here. Most NY teams play weak schedules. You hit the nail on the head for the exceptions. But I still don't think the Trinity faithful understand how good this Dixie Heights team has gotten over the course of this season, they still had to beat a good Ryle team and Simon Kenton team twice each.

People keep saying that, but we heard the same story last week with MC. In fact we heard that same story with SK in 2008 and Ryle in 2006. Unless you have someone like Eric Shelton in the backfield and a line like no other we have ever seen, I doubt Dixie moves the ball well on the ground without having a respectable passing threat. If they can't achieve any offensive balance the day will end badly for them.

 

I hope they do honestly, I want a good game. I don't want the last couple championship games against NKY teams. They were boring.

Congratulations.... you have verified why most other Louisville schools have confirmed Trinity is referred to as the "____ empire." Have to honor others sensitivity. But all of us know that is a compliment.

Hoping I'm wrong, but have said all season that no one beats T, X or Scott in the title game. DH just doesn't have the passing game to score enough points to beat Trinity. Defense is stout but will have to cover athletes like they haven't seen all season.

I know you are a fan who probably has family on the team, so I am going to assume you are taking it personally even though there is no reason to as this is just a football game.That being said I have been giving specific reasons as to why I feel that Dixie is highly unlikely to win this game.

 

Let's break this down as simply as possible :thumb::

 

Item 1: Trinity's defense has been great against the run all season and in the playoffs has been even better (i.e. holding X to -15 yards rushing).

 

Item 2: Dixie Heights is a team that relies heavily on the run. This plays into Trinity's defensive strength (see above). As was discussed in the Meade County prediction thread last week, in order to open up the running game against T you need a credible passing threat. From what I have read, Dixie's passing game is not a source of strength.

 

Item 3: Trinity does not have a great record compared to many teams in the finals, however Trinity had played one of the toughest schedules in the country. Trinity has been battle tested both out of state and against the best teams in KY (scrimmaged HHS and came out of the playoffs of the Super District beating both Male and X). They know how to fight in tight games.

 

Item 3: Dixie Heights has destroyed their competition all season (which is a good thing, but given who they have played that is not something that would give any good team pause). Ergo, they are likely not battle tested against a tough team. It could be that they are just that good, however as they do have a loss to CovCath that does call this into question.

 

 

Most of the analysis I am seeing on here that is predicting a Dixie win is based on fandom and a desire to not see Trinity win again. Things along these lines:

 

"Trinity hasn't seen a team like Dixie this season." Given the talent of the teams Trinity has faced already, I consider that highly unlikely.

 

"Dixie hasn't had to pass this year, but they can if they need to!" Not really a ringing endorsement of the passing attack.

 

"Dixie is a team of destiny! They will get it done and bring it back to NKY!! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" Some SportsCenter level analysis going on there for sure.

 

 

I am not meaning to denigrate the kids involved on the Dixie squad and I am sure they have as much heart as any team in the title games this weekend. I struggle to think that there are any teams going into the games this weekend who "want it more" than the others as I can't imagine how anyone couldn't have their hearts into it to give it all they have.

 

My posts are based on the simple fact that Dixie's offensive strength plays into Trinity's defensive strength. It is extremely hard to run on the Rocks this season, especially now that the defense has all their starters back. I am not familiar with Dixie's defense but I do know that Trinity has a balanced attack that makes it a challenge to stop. The Rocks have won games through the air and on the ground this season, so they will be a challenge to stop. Based on that information there I don't see that Dixie will win.

 

Could it be that I am wrong? It is possible although I suspect the evidence I am using to support my claims indicate it is highly unlikely. However if Dixie does somehow win I will respect the daylights out of their victory because they will have earned it. I have been wrong before, but thankfully we are divorced now and that issue is resolved. :walk:

 

 

I am hoping for a game to remember and that Dixie exceeds my expectations. Just not, you know, enough to beat the Rocks (cause I still want our boys to win you know). :dancingpa
