In my opinion when I look at that schedule, this is where T and a lot of the other big schools differentiate themselves from NKY teams. They don't really care about the record as long as they are playing good competition that prepares them for this game. NKY teams seem to want to have a good record first and then hope they can compete later. That's not a hit on Dixie, I just think it's NKY's philosophy outside of a few teams (Beechwood, NCC, HHS, Ryle and Cov Cath) No one else seems to challenge themselves to the limits, if it means you could actually lose! I have said this before...I would take a challenged 5-5 team any day over an unchallenged 10-0. I want my team battle tested!

The teams you have listed have a history of going deep in the payoffs. Dixie doesn't. BW and NCC HHS know they will compete for a title every year. I think this years SK team is an example of why a team should schedule top teams. Dixie is just not the normal 6A NKY team this season.

I just don't see any way that Trinity can beat this team. That has to be the greatest assembly of football talent since Lombardi's Packers. I really hope The Rocks can keep within 60.

I agree with the bolded. However, if we raised our level of play (even Dixie), we would be prepared for this game. Not saying Dixie won't hold their own. I hope they do and represent NKY and make us all believers, but anyone that knows anything about competitive sports knows that playing better competition helps you prepare for any challenge down the road. T will be a challenge for Dixie...win or lose. And they have not seen anything like they will see on Saturday. Maybe they can overcome it, but my instinct says adrenaline will keep them in the game for awhile possibly, but once it starts slipping, they may not be prepared to finish. You can preach all you want about "they want it bad" and "they will do what it takes" and "they are prepared", but they are still HS kids that haven't ever experienced anything close to what they are going to see on Saturday. That plays on your mind after a few series. I can't push this guy around like I have the others all year. I can't get the corner like I have all year. I can't carry the pile as far as I have all year. Hey, what he doing hitting me in the backfield. Fortunately for Dixie, no one has done that all year. But unfortunately for Dixie, no one has done that to them all year. There isn't one Dixie fan that knows how they are going to react in the state finals when things aren't as easy as they have been all year. They haven't really been punched in the mouth. Just like a bully in school...he may be a sissy when someone actually stands up to him. That's when we'll know how good this Dixie team really is.

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping as much as anyone they are for real and will be paying as much attention to this game as I will the HHS game! I want respect for NKY football...I just wish we'd go out and earn it more often!

I don't know if teams have this philosophy, or it's just the region we're in. For proximity (and budget), Cincinnati teams pose the best competition for bigger NKY schools. However, with Ohio's system, Cincinnati schools are very selective in who they schedule. A large Cincinnati school is much more inclined to schedule a CovCath or Highlands over a Dixie, Boone, or Campbell team as CCH and Highlands have a track record of winning, which helps the Ohio schools in their Harbin rankings. When trying to schedule 2 to 4 years out, these Cincinnati schools know what they're going to get with CCH and Highlands, but with some of the 6A schools it's a gamble that Cincinnati schools probably don't want to take. With teams down state, like Scott County, Trinity, Male, etc, they also probably don't have much interest in a game with a 6A NKY school as history shows, the games usually aren't very competitive. Therefore, it's probably not very easy for NKY 6A schools to schedule such games. IMO, SK should have the easiest opportunity out of the NKY 6A schools due to their recent track record.

In my opinion, a 6A school should look to play an equivalent of all 6A schedule. If they really want challenged, there are plenty of ways to do that. Find 1-3 games (outside of the district) to put on your schedule every year that you know is going to be good...even in a slightly down year. That is not that hard to do.

 

And to your point...the T's, X's and SC are NEVER going to come this way until NKY 6A proves it's worth the drive. If they could do that, I'm sure T would rather come here than some of the other places they have to travel to see good competition. I just get the sense that we always say "poor NKY" instead of doing something about it!!!

I really hope you're right. I want to believe soooo bad, but my gut tells me it's not going to happen. Nothing in their season pushes me over the edge. Yes, they have beaten the teams on their schedule handily and did what they were supposed to do. But the open question is what happens when things don't go as scripted like they have in all the other games.

Trinity wins. In this game of who matches up with whom and who has never seen anything to prepare them the Trinity passing game is better than any team the Dixie kids have ever defended. Balance of the Trinity offense will be a problem write it down.

NKY 6a doesn't have the one team that's a power house year to year. That makes it hard for the Louisville schools to want to play us. The NKY teams seem to run In cycles. Up a few years then down a few years. I hope that changes.
