Looks to me South Warren had the blueprint of what not to do to beat a Scroggins coached team.

South Warren scored almost immediately to start the game, going up 7-0. Central drove down the field with a good mix of pass and run but had to settle for a field goal. South Warren then scored on their first play from scrimmage on the second drive, the 57-yard run by the quarterback. At that point I was thinking we were in for a shootout. Central moved the ball but had to punt, pinning South Warren at the two. South Warren fumbled the exchange and Central picked it up and went in to make it 14-10. After holding South Warren again, Beason had the long run where he basically left everyone and scored.

 

After the wild first half the second half was a slugfest. I know Jason Frakes of the Courier tweeted that Central had one first down the second half. Central moved the ball through the air much better than on the ground, but they were better rushing the ball than I expected. I thought South Warren was very good defensively but were susceptible to the pass. Central changed a couple things defensively after the two big runs by the South Warren quarterback and were terrific on defense from that point on. South Warren was no real threat throwing the ball so it was hard to gauge much from Central's pass defense, although they did have two nice interceptions.

 

I think this week's Central/Belfry game will be very similar to the last two. Good, clean, hard-nosed hard-hitting, low-scoring football.

LOVED IT! Great place to watch a game. Sat on the Central side because the views were better (higher) and the wind was blocked by the building behind. Enjoyed the band performing all game long. Loved the sense of community at Central; really seemed like the sideline willed the team to victory.

Great observation!! Reminds me of a lot of Paducah Tilghman teams, and probably lucky only one of those turnovers resulted in a TD. Congrats Central!! Excellent season South Warren, great teams sometimes just come up a tad short. Be proud.

That was my point about talking before you've won something. SW is a very nice program but certainly not elite like BG.

I was estactic my little cousin Aaron DUNCAN made so many plays to keep central in the game including the tackle at the one that led to the central TD and the game sealing tackle.

There's a good chance that South Warren erases this disappointment next year. 4A is ripe for the picking.

It will be harder earlier next year (warren east, warren central, franklin simpson, just to name their district is an immediate upgrade. And don't forget, John Hardin will be waiting the day after Thanksgiving!

Agreed, but while coming into the year I thought it would be Warren Central's to lose in that district, with South Warren's youth, I think they are a definitive favorite over the others. You can add in Madisonville as a strong opponent in that region.

How many of the teams in their way really throw? Johnson Central runs it. John Hardin runs it. For the most part Franklin-Simpson runs it. Warren East runs it. Madisonville runs it. Warren Central became a throwing team this year but can they protect?

 

Central may have won last night but they never really got loose on offense outside of one play. That one 60 yard run was more than the rest of their ground game combined. The Spartans actually outgained them and still only lost by 2 despite getting destroyed in the turnover battle. The entire defense returns next year. Every last one of them from what I've seen. If you want to beat them you'd better be able to throw and you'd better find a way to pass protect too.

As I have said in many threads my fear was turnovers and penalties in a close game. Turn overs was 4 to 1 and one of the 4 was the TD for central. South had a couple of offsides penalties that extended some of centrals drives and took time off the clock.

 

Not taking anything away from Central they were a great team protected the ball by not turning it over very disciplined and was the better team last night.
