SW opened Aug of 2010 yes that had a SR. class itrt was under 100 want to think it was around 94. Last year was th first class that has been there all four years with a total of 249. When the school opened it had an enrollment of right at 800.

Last year enrollment was somewhere above 1,100.

Therefore the average four year enrollment saved them. I have said it many times befor they got a gift but it's not the kids fault it's KHSAA's.

2010-2011 was their first year open and while they had seniors, it was a diminished class. I believe as per usual around here the seniors were given the option of staying at their previous school.

Just wondering how they handled theirs in comparison to the Thomas Nelson split. TNHS had no seniors its first year, 2012-13.

Male enrollment at SW last 4 years...

13/14 - 564

12/13 - 525

11/12 - 488

10/11 - 415

4 year average = 498

Now look at the following chart showing the final alignment with teams moving up/down. there are still 11 teams larger than SW playing 4A.

And if we had used a 2 year average of 544.5 they would have still fallen in 4A

So moving forward, SW is playing in the correct class. Initially they would have been 5A, but would have been given the option of playing down because of all the teams opting to play up.

Agreed?

This is exactly what is wrong with the classification system in the state of KY. With teams moving up and down at will, using 5 year old numbers (this year was not included), using 4 year avg instead of 2 years. Teams will be playing in classes that literally have no boundaries with beginning or ending numbers because there is so much overlapping. Also teams with large drop offs in enrollment over the past couple years are forced to play in a higher class.

Thank you Wa22e,

Most people get confused on seeing the school because it looks so big and has both middle and high school under one roof. They then wanna try and include the middle school in numbers.

I really don't understand why the need for the clarification that it's not the kids fault... I think it's glaringly obvious that it's not the kids fault. But it's still "bull" that a new school in athlete rich Warren County gets shown such favoritism, for such a duration. Everyone with reasonable sense knew what the enrollment at SW was going to become, everyone but the KHSAA apparently.

My stance is this and I still believe it to be true; for the last 4 years they should have been 4A, next year they will have 5A enrollment when you consider the graduating class and the incoming class. Thus my belief that for 8 years they are the most blessed team in KHSAA history...

Most blessed I don't know got a gift yes probably so.

By the "letter of the KHSAA law", I believe you are correct.

I know the got a huge gift the first 4 years.

The assumption being of course that South Warren would have taken the opportunity to drop.

Several of the teams on the border wouldn't have had to make requests either. Teams like Hopkinsville and Madisonville-North Hopkins would have been in 4A to begin with and wouldn't have had to request to play down. We're also assuming that the KHSAA would have used the same policy of allowing teams to play down. I have no idea if that was motivated by what they saw as potential geographic challenges to their 4 year enrollment alignment, but it certainly made it easier on them when a few teams did choose to move. To use Hoptown and Madisonville as examples again, it saved that 4A district from a truly ugly chasm between them and teams like Franklin-Simpson having to be in a district with Calloway County.

In light of recent events with Bowling Green High losing to Graves, and South Warren winning in dominant fashion, has SW taken over as the dominant team in South Central Kentucky? South starts primarily all Sophomores and Juniors which bold swell for the future; while BGHS is led by a plethora of Seniors... These seem to be 2 programs headed in opposite directions. Thoughts?

Haha. They're doing a good job, but SW is not the dominate team.

The only team that can duplicate what BG has done is BG. They have support from their Central Office on down to their front office. That is not the case in all districts. I am a SW supporter but to make comments like this only negates any good will the other local schools may have for SW.
