This is an excellent point. Does South Warren have a BG type of reputation? How are the district lines drawn up and how have they managed to achieve success in such a quick amount of time and Greenwood never has?

I think you misunderstood the post. But thats is generally the fault of the writer so I apologize.

If the brothers metaphor lost you then either you were not a brother or I failed to correctly utilize the metaphor.

 

I am not ripping the SW football team, I am ripping their fans. Like my previous post said, Im proud of any local kids who represent our area. However fan arrogance in every form is annoying to others, but an unearned arrogance is repulsive.

 

I call them little brother when it comes to football only. And in that respect, with an undefeated record against GW I could say worse. With SW they are new, unproven, still two classes below where they belong, and by every standard "the little brother" to BGs f-ball program.

 

As for your hypothesized daughter, that is fine. Not sure where you were going with this though, because I was not talking about the schools in general, just football.

I'm just not understanding the hatred towards SW. I know several teachers there, but hardly any students. So I can't really speak one way or another regarding how their fans are.

From the outside looking in it seems like they took some quality athletes from Warren Central. It seems like Warren Central has taken a step back while South Warren is rising. Remember, SW played only JV/Frosh their first year. So if you were on the varsity ROSTER at GW or WC the year before SW opened, you were allowed to stay at that school, no matter what grade you were in. The kids they have now are home growned

I believe he's referencing the area rather than literally saying these were athletes that came over directly. I can rattle off three of the best players from last year's graduating class that were starters at Moss as 8th graders. I imagine there are some of this current senior crop that were there as 7th graders. But in general, it's the area he is referencing, to say nothing of people whose address "changed" or they were outright granted transfers into the school. And that continues to happen.

But Central did take a step back, in much the same way. Central won one region title in 3A, in 1993, the fourth year Greenwood was open. It was in fact the only time they even played for one, losing in the second round of both of those two years in 3A before then, and never returning after until moving into 4A. After '93, it would be 6 years before Warren Central would win another playoff game. It would be 10 years before they ever played for (and won) a region title. At the end of 1993, Bowling Green led their series with Warren Central 14-8 and the previous 10 matchups had actually had Warren Central ahead 6-4. Central has beaten BG four times since then, FOUR. They've lost 21. Oh yes, they took a step back. And unlike then with the time it took them to rebuild, they have zero growth areas and are considered totally toxic in terms of people desiring to have their children go there. They're taking a step back from the half-step they took back to their old form. A big step.

 

What Greenwood took was a little less evident than what we have now. Greenwood took the hogs. Central always had, and likely always will have, skill position players. But they have for the most part never again possessed the size up front. Greenwood has always been much the opposite, struggling to fill their skill positions but blessed with great size on the lines. I believe South Warren was created with a best of both worlds mentality. I do not believe their location was chosen by accident, in any sense of that statement.

In light of recent events with Bowling Green High losing to Graves, and South Warren winning in dominant fashion, has SW taken over as the dominant team in South Central Kentucky? South starts primarily all Sophomores and Juniors which bold swell for the future; while BGHS is led by a plethora of Seniors... These seem to be 2 programs headed in opposite directions. Thoughts?

 

Let me take a moment to clarify my initial post....

1. I posted a question (not a statement) about whether SW had taken over as the premier program in South Central Kentucky in order to spark conversation on the topic. GOAL ACCOMPLISHED! However, I never said that SW is currently better than BGHS, but if you would like to know my answer to that, simply ask.

 

2. I continued by stating that these were 2 programs headed in opposite direction.... This is very much TRUE. Simple math will help you understand why. One program won 3 straight titles and had 3 undefeated seasons; then lost 2 games in one season and got booted from the playoffs in the 3rd round. I believe and know that MOST BG fans would describe this as taking a step back.... The second program, obviously SW, struggled its first 1-2 years having a varsity team but have somehow managed a combined record of 24-2 over the last 2 seasons. (13-0 this season and playing in the State Semi Final) 1+1 usually adds up to 2 in my book.... One program is losing for the fist time in a while and one is winning for the first time, hence the statement "These seem to be 2 programs headed in opposite directions."

 

3. There was a comment made about Souths Skill players coming from other schools after re districting... This couldn't be further from the truth (at least for this team that is currently winning right now). I am not saying that there are not one or two, but most of the skill players are from other cities/states, and have moved into the SW school district when they moved to Bowling Green.... WR Haynes moved in from Franklin, KY as an 8th grader 2 years ago, WR Cummings moved in from GA as an 8th grader 3 years ago, QB Litten moved to the district as a 7th grader from Butler County, WR/LB/RB Lacey moved in from Louisville, KY.... SW has become "the county school" as someone stated earlier, and many people when moving in from out of town decide to settle in Souths District...

 

4. Semper Fi I am one Fan, and if my comments alone have caused you to harvest some type of resentment towards Souths program, I sincerely apologize. However, I seriously doubt that is the case.... I believe that your anger began the day Monroe County became Souths "Little Brother", and you realized you all have no chance of beating them at the varsity level ever again. The Truth hurts....

They may have something to do with the fact that Monroe will not have to play the beast South because of them moving down to 2a. And them moving up. BUT....Monroe DID schedule BG first game next year and not BG's "little" brother... Just saying!!!

Central was very tough during those years. However they found a way to climb back after the GW years, yet again. I hate no other school more than Central but have always had a ton of respect for them. Played against alot of friends there, got stomped by the Riley crew in BBall, and played the Whitney and Worm connection in football. As much as I hated them I ALWAYS looked forward to the rivalry. I would hate to see them take a hit again because I think many others appreciate that rivalry too!

They've already taken the hit, and I know they won't recover in just a few years.

No offense or problem with SW, and they may roll through 3a this year, but this thread is a joke because BG plays an unreal schedule and to be a dominant program you have to play a better schedule if you are SW. Having Adair or Etown as your best team is weak. So it will be interesting to see if the Spartans beef up their schedule when they go to 4a.
