LRCW Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 For Shelby Miller and pitching prospect Tyrell Jenkins.http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/braves-cardinals-trade-jason-heyward-for-shelby-miller.html
Capernicus41 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Really like this deal for the Cards. Heyward is one of the best defensive RF's in baseball if not the best. If he gets his hitting back on track he is a 5-6 WAR. It also is a short term fix that could be long term if they like what they see. Heyward is only 25. I also like the potential "throw in" Jordan Walden. Solid bullpen arm that can help when either Martinez or Gonzalez now moves to the rotation. I think this deal works out well for both teams.
BaseballIsLife Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Do not like this trade at for the Braves. Their offense was bad enough as it is and trading away your second/third best hitter as well as the best defensive outfielder in baseball isn't helpful. I like Miller a lot but not worth Heyward.
CBDV Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Wow....Braves are getting really hard to root for because of stupidity.

I will say I love Tyrell Jenkins. I have followed him closely since he was drafted. He is the definition of an athlete drafted on potential, but the potential is top of the rotation guy. Signed to play QB at Baylor before drafted by Cards. Sits around 94-95 and showing success developing secondary pitches. Had a very nice Arizona Fall League (ERA below 2.00 with 20 plus innings worked). Nice move by John Mozeliak. Put Jenkins in the AFL to prove health and potential, build it up, then let someone else take on the risk.
LRCW Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Heyward will go to St. Louis and become a stud. It's the norm for the Cardinals when they make a trade it seems.
All In Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Heyward will go to St. Louis and become a stud. It's the norm for the Cardinals when they make a trade it seems. Meanwhile the Reds will hold fast with an outfield of Heisey,Hamilton and the great one,Jay Bruce
MJAlltheWay24 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Not real thrilled with Heyward being in the division.

Good trade for the Braves the more I look at it. Braves only had Heyward for this year. They've got Miller for 4 years and Jenkins for 6 years. Heyward is really good defensively but has really struggled offensively the last 2 years. He's got 28 HR's and a .400 SLG I believe over the last 2 seasons. His offensive ability never reached where they though. Heyward was a great clubhouse guy but was expendable due to him leaving anyway and struggling offensive numbers.
halfback20 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Wow....Braves are getting really hard to root for because of stupidity. Agreed. This sucks. Had to move Heyward probably though because they couldn't afford to resign him. Losing Walden sucks too but admittedly I know nothing about the pitching prospect they got.
FBCoachDYF Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 This is what happens when you have a general manager and organization not afraid to deal from a position of depth. This is a STEAL for St. Louis and dramatically strengthens their control of the NL Central. This is the kind of deal Jocketty NEEDS to make and, again, got beat on.
halfback20 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Heyward will go to St. Louis and become a stud. It's the norm for the Cardinals when they make a trade it seems. He is already a defensive stud. The potential is there for offense though.
halfback20 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Word going around is that Justin Upton is likely next to be dealt. Apparently no one is safe, other than the top 3 pitchers, Kimbrel, Freeman and Simmons. That means Justin, BJ, Gattis, Chris Johnson, all could be dealt. Who in the heck will play outfield for the Braves?
halfback20 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Apparently the Mariners are the most interested in Justin Upton.

I agree about Walt needing to make some moves. Reds had higher payroll last year than Cards.
