I think they should start freezing the scores when one team reaches the running clock. If they want to keep playing that's fine, but the scoreboard is locked. This would encourage many teams to just let a bunch of young kids play the games out.

I think a bunch of young kids play these games out anyway. The HHS starters played ONE QUARTER last night. 2nd teamers (and 3rd and 4th teamers) played the last 3 quarters. Freezing the scoreboard?? Really??

Yes, it's ridiculous and stupid. The regular season means nothing. You should have to do something to earn your way into the playoffs. This isn't U10 soccer.

How do teams in a four team district earn a playoff spot?

It's because there are too many people who think Billy and Bob should get a chance to play in the playoffs because of not they'll be heart broken. We are in an era where EVERYBODY is declared a winner! You don't have to earn anything because everything is given. It's stupid.

I guess your definition of "earn" is different than mine. Many districts only have 4 teams - they all get in. There are more than a few teams that went 0-10, 1-9 or 2-8 and are in the playoffs. If you call that "earning" a playoff spot, OK. I do not.

Football only takes top four. All others are in their respective district tournament automatically.

What people don't understand is that the districts in football do play a district and at the beginning of the season they are all included in that district. Because football does not lend itself to playing a multi-day district tournament, it's played during the season and each district game is essentially just like the start of a district tournament in other sports. If they could play a district tournament just like the other sports, they would! But in football you can't so they they divide the teams up in to districts and bake it into the regular season. This is the solution. The problem and difference is, football allow 4 teams to pass at the end of the district play and other sports only allow two. If you changes football to 2 teams, it would be almost exactly the same as other sports except it gets played over weeks instead of days. All football teams start their district tournaments at kickoff against their first district opponent.

So let's amend the other sport's postseason. They all play each other twice so the best teams will have it sorted out. Go straight to region tourneys with best 2 teams.
