How did Alison Grimes lose to Mitch McConnell? Let some political talking heads tell it she lost because she would not own up to being an Obama backer.

 

Did she vote for Obama or didn't she? We all think she did but she wouldn't admit it publicly and in the opinion of people like Roland Martin that is why she lost. Roland Martin pointed out on twitter that Tom Wolf won in Pennsylvania and he openly embraced Obama to the point that Obama appeared at rallies for Tom Wolf. Roland Martin also pointed out that ACA has been considered a success in KY and Grimes could have used that to rally support as well.

 

Me personally, I've said it before and I'll say it again. In this state politicians don't even try to engage black people. We'll never know now but I can't help but wonder what embracing Obama could have done for Grimes. She spent so much time trying to engage people who weren't going to vote for her anyways that people who probably didn't even vote would have likely voted for her had she tried a different strategy.

 

I don't know, maybe I am wrong and don't know what I am talking about but not one person is surprised she lost and most aren't surprised by how much she lost. She had nothing to lose and I wish she'd have ran a better campaign. Or at least embraced Obama a whole lot more than she did. She was proud to say she voted for Hillary and last I saw Hillary couldn't beat Obama either.

Roland Martin is picking and choosing facts. Obama also campaigned in Illiinois, Maryland, and Michigan and they lost all those governor races. Obama admitted going into the election this election was about his policies. His policies got beat like a drum and beat in races where no one thought the GOP had a shot.

 

This is quite funny after years of a GOP civil war. You could see on MSNBC last night the civil war brewing in the Democrat party. Obama supporters are saying if they stood with Obama this wouldn't of happened. The campaigns are saying those supporters are wrong because internal polling showed Obama would of only made things worse in a lot of these races.

 

I think the two biggest races last night were Arkansas and Iowa, Hillary and Bill campagined in those states non stop. The democrats were beat in each race and it isn't a good sign for Hillary in 2016.

Decent analysis, Bash. Don't disagree with anything you said. (Scary for both of us.) A lot of what happened last night is just a case of the pendulum swings left, then it swings right ... six-year itch for change ... a president "too cool" for his party's good ... someone who has forgotten how to have a chat with the people.

 

There's also a precedent here. In the midterm of '06 -- Bush's sixth year in office -- Democrats picked up 31 House seats and 6 Senate seats.

I got the impression that Tom Wolf wasn't expected to win. Illinois appeared to be an upset though.

 

Maybe I'm naive but I just don't see how 'upsets' happen in the political world. These elections prove to be more predictable than not in my voting experiences.

 

I would have liked to have seen Grimes embrace Obama more. Running away from him didn't work either.

Obama blamed George Bush for Grime's defeat.

She would have done better than McConnell and have more energy.

She lost because of Obama.

 

But now that McConnell is Majority Leader, maybe he will get some things done for KY, like Hal Rogers has done.

 

I may be wrong but the fact that it looked as if there was definitely going to be a change over of parties in control, I feel a lot of votes went to McConnell because he would movemto the Majority Leader and power for ky...........grimes would mean giving that up.....

Out of any of the state's Kentucky was one of the worst to embrace Obama. He is historically unpopular in the Bluegrass state . I'll admit there were a few races where I don't think he would of harmed them. But Kentucky just wasn't one. McConnell won a campaign based on connecting Grimes to Obama. Bringing him to Kentucky would of been playing into the hands of the GOP in the state.

Incumbents are historically hard to beat. Incumbents about to be in one the most powerful positions in the country are almost impossible.

Normally I would agree but Hagan, Udall and Landreau are proof in my mind of just how unpopular this president and his policies are, so much so in fact that incumbancy may have actually hurt them

 

I heard last night that of the Senators that voted for Obamacare 26 (I believe that was the number) are now out of office.

Udall was a huge defeat for the GOP . The in roads made with Hispanics in Colorado needs to be duplicated.
