Good points. I do want to apologize for a bourbon laced post calling you a hack a week ago. I don't apologize much. But I read that post afterwards and shook my head.

I will say this, as soon as Alison won Sec of State, I overheard TV personalities at the party talking on air about how they see Mitch as being her next opponent, at the time I just shook my head, but within weeks I was hearing it was a real thing. Before this the sights were on a possible run for governor, which I always thought was the best route. She wouldn't even discuss it, she was thinking it, but wouldn't discuss it. Since she didn't give clues that is when you had others mentioned. But after an hour long talk with president Clinton in Owensboro (or Paducah, if forget which) around Feb of 2013, and several long talks with the governor, she decided, no one knew, which is why it was such a hurried event for her announcement, she woke up and told people she was running, and a few hours later was the presser.

 

Personally I was I was thinking, and I mentioned it as well, that if not going for governor, wait to see what Paul would do and run for his seat if he runs for the presidency, then you don't have to deal with taking on a 30 year vet. And not have to worry about all the power and money being thrown at you. I agree with her that term limits should be in place. 3 terms, maybe 4, but no more.

 

I will tell you that she is a sincere person, and this isn't the end of her political career. I do like Conway, and right now I am sure that he is wondering "what is she going to run for now?" And what will make it hard is he is close to the family.

 

And for now, I'll end on this. When outside people come in for a campaign, it doesn't run the way that you would like. I'm sure anyone running would rather have people of their state in control, people that have their hearts in to race.

 

I would be interested in what republicans think that she should have said or done to possibly get you or other republicans interested in possibly voting for her. Please PVT me so you can be honest as I'm not looking for debates.

 

It's always going to be hard to defeat a 30 yr vet as I said, and one who will most likely be there leader it's next to impossible. But I truly believe that if Obama wasn't the president, or wasn't so unpopular, it would have been much closer, would she have won? I would hope, but it would have been close.

Out of any of the state's Kentucky was one of the worst to embrace Obama. He is historically unpopular in the Bluegrass state . I'll admit there were a few races where I don't think he would of harmed them. But Kentucky just wasn't one. McConnell won a campaign based on connecting Grimes to Obama. Bringing him to Kentucky would of been playing into the hands of the GOP in the state.

 

And the campaign ran by Grimes didn't play into the hands of the GOP?

In Kentucky she really had no chance against the political machine McConnell is. I don't think we'll know what she could have stood for because she like most are puppets to the money they receive plus over coached to say nothing of substance. I am not certain any Democrat could beat him in this state, this state just doesn't lean the way Dems think and the policies they support.

 

It's tough being a Dem in this state, but I wouldn't live anywhere else and am proud to be a native. I could rail on sites about how I believe Rand is not good for the state nor country, but if he chooses to run, he will win in a landslide in two years. Therefore, I will vote for whom I think is best, not debate others who think differently because I have seen nary a one change their minds.

 

The country spoke loudly last night and I do believe it was a vote against Obama, obviously. We'll see if we are any better in 2 or 4 or 6 years when the tide will turn again.

If it is better in 2,4,6 years the republicans will get the credit. If it is worse Obama will take the blame.

Reflecting on the race I think it was a poor decision on the state Democrat party to run a potential young star in a race like that. People may be right and she could recover . But outside of Beshear who has ran against McConnell and survived? He ends political careers.

As long as there are people willing to put money into her she'll be fine. That's what politics is all about isn't it?

Young, energetic. Will find-tune a few things and learn a few things. But what will she run for next? Again taking this experience and growing.

 

On a side note. Do people think that some who may be already running for a higher office could actually win? Or would she be a better threat?

 

I'll say I hope that Mitch does some good for the country, and a bit more good for KY. So many things in this state that he could help with.

 

In NKY we need a new bridge. Many times during midday you can see 75 backed up to Ft Mitchell, for no reason. This is a project that should have happened 20 years ago. I hope he gets something started.

Grimes is a pawn of the Democratic Party. Even the half-intelligent Kentuckians could see through that. If she weren't attractive you wouldn't even know her name. I am not a huge Mitch fan, but Grimes is a puppet.

I got the impression that Tom Wolf wasn't expected to win. Illinois appeared to be an upset though.

 

Maybe I'm naive but I just don't see how 'upsets' happen in the political world. These elections prove to be more predictable than not in my voting experiences.

 

I would have liked to have seen Grimes embrace Obama more. Running away from him didn't work either.

Alison had nothing to gain by being curt and negative in defeat . She got routed , should have smiled and said " it wasnt my time " . Instead IMO she added to the image she's a terrible politician . Might be a great lady , but a inexperienced , bad candidate for high office.

I somewhat agree, as you said "a potential young star", running against a machine that Mitch can turn out, we all knew it was going to get brutal, but as you said, he was a seasoned vet.

 

I will say that as soon as she won the election for Secretary of State 3 years ago, at the election night party people were talking of her running against Mitch, I even overheard a few of the news crews talking about it in front of me as they were on air. I didn't think anything of it at the time as I was thinking governor, as Beshear wouldn't be served his limit.

 

Beshear? Possibly, as he didn't have anything to loose, his political career is winding down anyway, but would he want to run, win, and live in DC at this time of his life? But at this stage even if he wanted to continue it would pretty much end his political career, not so much as with Alison, or Rand for that matter if he ran for president and lost, he is still young enough to bounce right back.

 

I don't think this hurt Alison, she is only 35, she gained a whole lot of experience out of it and now know what to expect when it comes to pressure. I know things will be talked about within the next month.

 

I think I mentioned this last week, but next time I hope their is little close outside help, most people from out of state don't know a thing about what plays well in this state, and many don't have their heart in the race like Alison, Mitch, and the Kentuckians who help them. I believe it was you who said that the race became to some people to get rid of Mitch. I have said this all along, the republicans should have voted for Bevins, then we all would have a clear choice for something new.
