I want someone who knows football better than I do to explain what happened with the FSU offense and Louisville defense in the second half. Following the break there was wide open space in the flat on every play. Ten or twelve yards anytime Jameis wanted it; just had to pass to the RB or that O'Leary guy.

 

Did something change after the break or did FSU finally start capitalizing on something they saw developing?

 

If someone already answered then I apologize but from what I saw Louisville looked to be playing man coverage or maybe even cover 3 or 4 where their corner was dropping for deep coverage. I think it was man because FSU would run a slant off of it and the corner would run with the slant and the flats were wide open because they had to be covered by a LB and they just weren't getting there fast enough.

 

Again that is only a couple plays that I saw, I missed a big part of the game unfortunately

How big was the INT to start the second half that the Cards fumbled right back? Could have been 28-7 at that point.

 

Ultimately UL stopped them on 4th down at midfield. It was only a difference of 20 yards field position.

UL had a great showing on National TV, especially in the first half. Nothing to be ashamed of, positive energy for a program to trying hold of UKs momentum in-state. Famous Jameis is an elite college player.

Just pointing out how the rankings are and how they can be twisted to say whatever you want.

 

Oklahoma State is usually an above average team.

 

Clemson is usually an above average team.

 

Notre Dame is usually an above average team and currently a top 10 team.

 

Louisville is a top 25 team and recently has been an above average team.

 

I'm not defending. I'm just saying that if an SEC team had this resume..........

 

My fault, I needed the sarcasm font for my post. I was implying that the world decided they play only cupcakes without even really looking at their schedule. We are in agreement.

 

That Oklahoma State game would look a lot more impressive if their QB Walsh hadn't gotten hurt the next game. People don't realize the difference in the team FSU played vs who they've been the rest of the year.

Very nice showing by U of L. This just shows how hard it is to beat a top level program like FSU. You really do need to play just about a perfect game. I would hope that this showing results in some very nice recruiting for them as potential players had to be impressed.

Well... sleeping it off didn't help; still pretty bummed.

 

Before the season started, I predicted an 8-4 finish for this team. That's still possible but all three losses were absolutely agonizing games in which Louisville had a lead late in the fourth quarter and still lost. Likely a consequence of a league like this: the line between 10-2 and 8-4 is razor thin and can turn on a couple plays here and there.

Good to hear! The energy of the team and the crowd had to excite recruits.

Flats were there all night, JW just didn't take them. Louisville also went from man to zone in 2nd half. Playing 2 high safety, no one was carrying RB out of backfield, which allowed him free. Great call by JF to take a shot deep to TE (after throwing RB flat 4 straight times) Louisville went 1 safety, the te basically ran a vertical Rte. The corner and safety jumped the RB flat route, leaving deep ball to TE wilde open. It should of been caught for a huge gain. Same play happen on long pass to make 24 14, rb went flat rte, both cb and safety jumped it, Wr #15 Rudolph, wide open for 6.

 

Thanks guys. I don't necessarily notice that stuff in the heat of the moment. There was a decided shift after the break and from my seat in the upper deck, nothing seemed specific, just hopeless. Everything they did seemed like it was good for at least six yards during the second half. Too busy have an apoplectic meltdown to really notice why things were happening.

That's a fair statement. The roster is strong, but some more developed quality depth and being accustomed to playing at a high level on a consistent basis will come in due time.
