October 23, 201411 yr I actually have a theory. I think it's happened at this rate for quite some time. But before this it was the couple's word against everyone else. So even if someone told on them as long as the kid and teacher both denied it there really wasn't evidence. But now you have text messages and social media where the "bragging" is stored for all to see -- including angry parents and the police. That's kind of what I was thinking too.
October 23, 201411 yr My Dad's best friend impregnated one of his teachers when he was in high school. He survived without any long lasting effects. As someone mentioned early this has been happening for years but now there is easy proof.
October 23, 201411 yr As someone who has worked with youth in various ways over the years, I've never understood how the adult--male or female--could ever do this. I've been in a school building as a "young" (mid-20's) male teacher/coach and have seen some really attractive students who could easily pass for 18, or even 21. IF...IF...the hottest of the hot of those had ever approached me in a sexual way, I'm pretty sure it would have been met with "are you serious?" and then, "call me the day after graduation". I don't know how anyone would throw away their livelihood, throw away their entire education, throw away their reputation, throw away their family life (if married), etc. You're essentially pinning your hopes of a normal life to a teenager to keep their mouth shut (and that student's friends, and their friends). Every time I see these stories, it blows me away (pun intended).
October 23, 201411 yr Here is why I do not have a problem with it between the woman and young man - She is good looking and not married and the kid went to her 30 times.....not rape. Most the time when it is a man and young girl - it is a creepy old dude who used his influence, authority, and being around the female everyday to take advantage of the situation. Ask yourself - If that young woman came up to 100 16 year old boys, how many would say "No!" I ask myself the same question EVERY TIME one of these cases comes up - MAN or WOMAN. Yes, I have a son and daughter too. Now would I do it? No!!!!! Too much at stake. BUT single young attractive people who are 21-30? It happens way more than you think.

I know that an attractive woman could have talked me into just about anything as a young guy... that list is probably still pretty long.

I look at it on a case by case basis on what pops up here and the news. This one - Police: Destrehan teachers had a threesome with a student | WGNO Yeah, that one had no abuse of power either......

I'm going to make the assumption that most all father's are not going to be okay with their daughter sleeping with any guy, unless married, regardless of whether that guy is ten years older, the same age, or 10 years younger. Am I correct? If so, and both participants are of legal consenting age and willing, I see no reason to have any more anger than normal. I'd be disappointed and saddened that my daughter or son was sexually active, regardless of who the other person was.

What authority does she have? And no, not really, occupation wouldn't matter. I will say I'd be much more upset if they were sleeping with a drug dealer or someone of that ilk than a teacher.
