As others have pointed out, the CovCath-JC series stands at 3-3. I would expect the playoff match-up to be a very competitive game that could go either way. Always enjoy my trips to Paintsville.

They beat JC badly, but I wouldn't say they limped into the playoffs. They had won 6 straight games entering that one including a blowout of Drew Barker and Conner. They entered 9

I'm sorry! Let me re- phrase that, what I meant about limped was they were injuries to their star and or skill players. And as far as being 3-3, It's what you have done for me lately.

Let me say this about JC. I understand they are playing Belfry in a week but they haven't been tested truly all year. The comment about LC playing great opponents and not beating FTH is true.

Personally I think this is the last chance they'll ever play so I would love that chance. I am a firm believer of trying to get that monkey of not beating Highlands off of the LC back. So far they've owned the series. Last year was entertaining but a shaky 1st half got LC in a hole. I want to fast forward a few weeks but I understand that it's 1 game at a time

No chance. You have to schedule teams with a heartbeat.

To win a state championship you have to play a quality schedule. Period. That doesn't mean every game is against Male, Trinity and St X, but you can't schedule non-district games against pitiful teams and expect to go far in the playoffs. Before Kevin Wallace came to BG, BG had 1 SC. He improved the non-district game schedule significantly and IMO allowed the more recent BG teams to be prepared to win TOUGH games in November and December.

IMO, Johnson Central will not win a State Championship until there schedule improves. And yes, Belfry is very good, but that isn't enough if you expect to defeat Cov Cath and Highlands who regularly play each other, Elder, Moller, scrimmage Trinity and etc.

So their greatest test comes at the end of the season. That's a tough time to discover how good you really are or are not? You don't have a lot of time to work on things and fix them.

 

I go back to the '09 and '10 seasons when JC stepped up and scheduled Boyle to a home and home. They got pasted in '09 and then lost a good game in '10 to the Rebels but they gave HHS their best post season games that year. But since then, it's like the Eagles have been unwilling to do what it takes to "hit the road" and challenge their program to be a legitimate state contender.

The battling Matneys would be favored vs Cov. Cath and big underdogs vs Highlands this year.

Very true. Their athletic director puts on email on the coaches Listserv seemingly every week looking for games.

True, But you cant blame people for not wanting to play a coach who constantly runs up the score etc.
