Fair take Lex. I also have HHS #1 just because of their great program and consistency (not having seen them). For Owensboro to win, I think Owensboro's Big O-line would have to control the LOS and let Owensboro's speed in the backfield work it's magic. Highlands defense last year didn't seem like much, not sure this year. Owensboro would have to control the clock and limit the opportunities of HHS offense - big task. I see a higher scoring game to be honest if they played. I hope this is the matchup in the finals.

 

Not sure if anyone in 4A should try to shoot it out with FTH. Ball control, slow grinding drives to keep that offense on the sideline is a great strategy. Only problem is you have to get touchdowns on some of those drives. 3 ' s only work in basketball and in the postseason they historically crank it up to a level that it tough to match

They lost to a top flight FL team who had to travel 800 miles to play the game.

They barely beat a good, but not great, Bryan Station team.

A 36-0 win over a 2-6 Holmes team

 

Is that a bit of nit-picking? Yes. But I stand by my statement. Highlands is still one of the top two in 4A and a very good team, but the are in no way the overwhelming Highlands of a few years ago. Hence, I don't feel that they've been overwhelming.

 

Okay, give ya the Camp Co game. However, that's been discussed to no end and there were reasons for that game.

 

Not great Bryan Station team??? Why would you say that? Who is great in your mind, because they just beat SC and their only two losses are to St X and HHS. I guess time will tell how good they are, but I have to think they are pretty darn good.

 

And the team that traveled 800 miles was here the day before they played, so I'm not sure why that has a lot to do with anything. And you do realize the first part of your description said "top flight florida team" right? Many third party people said there were very few KY team that could even compete with that team. So to minimize that performance is kind of silly. You do realize HHS is about a 3rd of the size of that school and they were a "top flight FLORIDA (not KY) school!

 

And Holmes, they scored 36 in the first half (I think) and this is where I was telling you the difference is with this HHS team vs the last 7-8 years...in the depth. Because in the past, the reserves would go into the game and continue to score. But that's not happening as much. But that has no impact on how good their starting units and immediate back ups are. With a gimpy QB!

 

In my opinion, this team without injuries will be as good as many of the past teams in the last 7-8 once they get to the playoffs. Injuries would have a bigger impact than they have in the past.

Don't throw dirt on region 2 just yet. Whoever will have to travel east and it won't an easy game regardless of who they play.

Nope, but I saw them last year twice (WC & Collins) and thought they were highly overrated (they were just plain BAD on defense)...and I've seen the offer list on their players this year as well as their scores and still think they're just not what they have been in the past.

Easier to stay at the top of the ladder when you've been there for the last 7 years, less to prove having been there and done that. Owensboro may be climbing the ladder, but their schedule is filled with losing records and a 2A school.

 

 

A pretty good 2A school, arguably the #1 or #2 team overall in the state, #3 team in 5A and #4 team in 4A. Looks like they have played more ranked teams than Highlands.

 

Side note: Highlands and Owensboro are both averaging 40 points for and 20 points against.

Highlands had one of the best HS football coaches, then was replaced by another great coach that hasn't missed a beat. I might not be as close to the HHS program that I would like to be, but I have not heard a negative comment from anyone about the new coach. Come to think of it, I haven't heard coach Mueller's name since the 100 year banquet.

 

There really isn't that much difference between this years team and the ones a few years back. If you want to talk about D1 players, Highlands has had some, but not as many as people think. This years team has the heart and soul of teams past with maybe a little more effort to get where they needed to be. HHS has been improving every game and will be a tough out in the playoffs. The HHS two's is the only difference because I FEEL that they lack game experience.

Just FYI Christopher Columbus of Miami won their game against Miami Senior 47-7 on Saturday and now stand at 7-1 in Class 8A.

I am as big a HHS fan as there is and IMO, this year's team is NOT one of the strongest teams I have seen at HHS. This is a good team that is definitely getting better every week. They could very well win the state championship in 4A this year but they could lose too. For me, in a way, this year's team is more fun to watch than some of the great HHS teams in the past. To watch where this team has come since its first game has been fun and makes me look forward to how much more it will improve. If the team DOES win the state title, the coaches and kids deserve a bunch of credit because it will not be just because they out-talented every other team - it will be because of how hard they worked to get better every day.
