What if President Obama is a Muslim

I agree. To be honest, who have committed the large majority of terrorist attacks across the world in the last, say 14 years? It may be the radicals, but it is Muslims.

Ruins it for the rest of them.

It would suck to be a Muslim in America these days. That's a struggle right there.

A stark but unacknowledged fact is that Islam and modern day democratic republics are not at all compatible. Islam combines government and religion and there is absolutely no 'seperation of church and state'. They are one in the same in Islam. Islam probably has no equivalent of 'give Ceasar what is Ceasar's'. Shared power is not part of the model.

It is a conflict of not just religions but of self rule and government. How that is reconciled with a society that is based on democratic republic model is yet to be seen. Historically, its usually a roiugh ride to co-habitation of religions and sectular leadership and it usually does not last.

I don't think a known Muslim would ever win the presidency even if they were qualified. Not in our lifetime anyway. 9/11 is always going to play a part in that. Even known liberal talking head, Bill Maher, doesn't speak favorably on Muslims.

Totally agree

I find it interesting how often throughout my history on this board that BGP is full of people who claim they vote with their faith, that they vote for someone "who's like them," yet there seems to be a lot of backtracking from that stance in this thread.

Frankly, I think it's interesting that you infer that people are voting their religion. I'd like to see where any poster ever said, I'm voting my religion in this forum. If you infer that Christians vote on moral issues, that's another deal entirely. Your jaded viewpoint of organized religion transfers to many simple comments made by posters that aren't reality in many instances IMO. No backtracking. I won't vote for someone who will support abortion. Ever. Is that voting my religion?

From my experience on this board, that's how it is presented by most folks. The "perfect" candidate could come along, with great ideas on national security, economics, foreign affairs, etc., but if they were also pro-choice most hardcore religious folks would dismiss them out of hand. Single issue voting is silly, IMO. Especially in light of the fact that the RNC doesn't really want abortion to ever be made illegal, thereby stripping away their plank issue. Once that's gone, the RNC has nothing.

Not so fast.

There are still plenty of gays who may want to get married.

It is quite amusing that after watching Obama six years of Obama's "leadership" in action, his supporters think that the only thing Republicans have to offer is their opposition to abortion. Amazing...

Mr Rapp, with all due respect, many conservatives bring that issue out as they will not vote for someone who is not against abortion.

In the last three weeks with my van in Alison wrapping, 5 people who were against her approached me, and all 5 brought up abortion, it was their first and only thing. So there are a good number of voters who will not vote someone who is 100% against abortion.

I am 100% against abortion, I identify myself as a democrat, but I do not vote along party lines, I look at all of the issues. No matter if abortion is legal or illegal, women will still get abortions, so it will not stop it. Therefor I see it as between the woman and God, and the doctor and God. The woman and the doctor will be the only ones that will have to answer for their actions when they pass away, if there is a punishment. Non one else. I'm not going to vote for someone who I think isn't good for whatever office they are seeking, but I agree with them on abortion.

I truly wish someone like you would stop me and talk, at least it appears from your post, that you would talk all of the issues, and not just about one issue.

I didn't vote for Obama, but thanks for playing.

I never said that you did, but you support him in more of your posts than you criticize him. In my book, that makes you a supporter, regardless of whether or for whom you voted. No Republican, if elected, would have the power to criminalize abortion. To suggest otherwise, is nothing but a canard, as is the broader assertion that Republicans are waging a war on women. Repeating such lies makes one a part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Your partisan hackery makes you see what you want to see. Just because I'm hypercritical of the GOP does not, by default, make me an Obama supporter. I'm not even registered as a Democrat, for Chrissakes. How much does the GOP pay you to get on this board and shill for them?

Isnt the democrat party liberal enough for you Jim S ? Who did you support as Prez last time and dont pull an Alison ! LOL

I guess I'm just simple minded then. I guess I'm a single issue voter. If you're for abortion I eliminate you as a candidate. However, regardless of your political affiliation, I'll weigh your stances on all of the other issues if you're pro life. I guess if there aren't any I won't vote. It's murder, so I'm not supporting that single issue. Guess I'll crack open the old King James and pray for the next one to come along.

Extreme liberalism pushed me out of the Democratic Party. I am a centrist, with a mixed bag of conservative and liberal beliefs. But since you and Mitch Rapp are from the same school of partisan hackery, I'm sure that makes me more liberal than Nancy Pelosi in your eyes.

I voted for Gary Johnson last time out.

I'm no partisan hack , If a politician's views mirror mine they get my vote . That could be libertarian , TEA , or R . I like Ol Rand and he is more TEA , and Libertarian than R . Or at least equal parts . And I think Bush was an awful president -- And I was just poking at ya a little bit . Dont be all offended :)
