What if President Obama is a Muslim

Featured Replies

The middle paragraph is what I was looking for is the discussion I was hoping to have. Not my fault you see a name and go off the rails. Maybe you should relax a little.
I am perfectly relaxed. The answers that you have received make perfect sense considering the way that you framed the question.

If you wanted to use an example, then you should have inserted the name of a good, or at least halfway competent president. At this point, everything about Obama is irrelevant except his record.

Isn't that the same as stereotyping though? They came from such and such so they are radicals? Is that what you are saying? That where they are from influences their decision making concerning America?

Its really who has access and influence - in the current time. Heritage is not relevent. What is relevent is the potential conflicts of current linkages to foreign/radical elements - some of which may go back to someones past. Those listed HAVE ongoing relationships with foreign elements. This is or is potentially a security/best-interest-of-the-countries-citizens.

Obama WAS a practicing Muslim when very young. I see no signs of current active participation. His multicultural background by itself should not be held against him. Only if there is deliberate hiding of his faith for the purpose of hiding foreign/radical connections would I be directly concerned.

And I've already apologized for not being more clear in my original post. I don't know what more you want me to say. You live for the gotcha moments. When I get got I admit it and keep it moving. I know what my intent was when I began the thread. Again, I am sorry for not being more clear.
How exactly is this an apology?

I forget that even when trying to have a discussion about a topic with seemingly intelligent people that ground rules need to be laid out when trying to further the discussion. My bad. Won't happen again. Carry on.

Obama sucks. Obama is a liar. Blah blah blah.

You got an attitude from the get go and still have it I see. A simple clarification would have been all that was needed instead of what you actually did, then you get miffed because I don't put up with. Seriously, be ticked at me because of this silliness if you want and think what you will of me. Excuse me for daring to confront you.

PP - how religious are you and would you say your religious beliefs define who you are ? I'd like to

Think I'm pretty committed to what religion I chose to follow , it defines who am I and is taken into consideration before all choices I make ( even the wrong ones ) so separating religion and politics is a no go for me . Now I stand for peoples right to no religion or different religions , but for I would never attempt to follow govt over God .

My religious beliefs do not define who I am.

I've always said how I feel. Not changing that anytime soon.

So don't take issue with me when I do, because that's not changing either. You're the one that got testy and for no good reason. Cockiness doesn't work with me and I think you'll find it won't with others either. If you want to debate or discuss, fine. You weren't doing either.

Neither was anyone else. It was the same old, same old. No good reason in your opinion is the same old frustrating conversation to me. It is what it is. Life goes on.

I think if you would have left Obama's name out of it you would have had a thread go in the direction you wanted. By directly linking your question about a Muslim president to Obama you had to expect people would talk about his performance. It's just how it works, wouldn't matter who the president is, especially seems to hold true since at least Clinton was in office. This country is, and has been, hotly divided for many years now politically.

I learned that lesson. I'm an eternal optimist. I always hope for the best.

I agree. I guess for me and my motivation for this thread is seeing people say over and over again how Obama is a Muslim and how we can never have a Muslim running our country. As I have stated, their religion doesn't matter to me. It just seems to me that some people would rather have an atheist as POTUS instead of a Muslim and I feel like that is because of 9/11. I don't know any Muslims but it still seems discriminatory to act in that manner. Someone shouldn't have to hide being a Muslim just because they want to be the POTUS. In my eyes, in our country, we should all be above all that.

I don't care as long as they are qualified to do the job of POTUS.

I was thinking the same thing about 9/11. I think that would stick in the minds of a lot of Americans if we had a Muslim running for POTUS.

I don't think a known Muslim would ever win the presidency even if they were qualified. Not in our lifetime anyway. 9/11 is always going to play a part in that. Even known liberal talking head, Bill Maher, doesn't speak favorably on Muslims.

I agree. To be honest, who have committed the large majority of terrorist attacks across the world in the last, say 14 years? It may be the radicals, but it is Muslims.
