What if President Obama is a Muslim

Featured Replies

I know the obvious answer. That's an easy one. If Obama is a Muslim he's a full fledged liar who hoodwinked the American people into believing he's a Christian. Got it. That's my fault for assuming people are on my wavelength. It's a wavelength thing. No biggie.

If he is a Muslim, which in reality doesn't matter too much, and lied about it to get elected, would you have any problem with that? I realize politicians lie all of the time, but a person of strong character, conviction and belief in a higher power would not lie about his/her faith for the sake of winning an election. If I believed in a certain God and denounced him/her for the sake of winning an election, I would say that would be a pretty big issue on judgement day.

Back to your original question, "What if the President (not necessarily this one) was Muslim?"

Let me expand it a little, What if the President was a Muslim or Atheist or Mormon or Jewish or Pentecostal?

Who cares? I don't ask the religion of my Doctor, I just want to know does he know what he's doing? If a person is qualified to lead the nation they are qualified, regardless of religion, race, sex or appearance (are they ugly).

If a sitting President was Muslim or Atheist or Mormon or Jewish or Pentecostal , my biggest concerns would be the same they have been for the last 20 years. His or her being Muslim or Atheist or Mormon or Jewish or Pentecostal would be way down the list of concerns. If that President took actions against the constitution based on any religious belief I would be against them.

If someone running for President is Muslim or Atheist or Mormon or Jewish or Pentecostal, admit it and move on to things that actually matter in the campaign. I think the American People are smarter sometimes than they are given credit for. Too many times politics is framed by the silliest of points..."Read my Lips", "I didn't inhale", "Fool me once" or what ever. We need to get past all of that mess and hold politicians to a higher level of discourse.

Not for me. I've always separated religion and politics. They just don't mix to me. I don't see how politics and religion can hold hands together and say we are in this together. IMO if Obama lied about being a Muslim it's is no different than Bill Clinton and other presidents visiting black churches for the sake of votes. These guys do anything they can to get elected and get votes. From lying to voter fraud.

I think politicians are the some of the most unscrupulous people on the planet so I don't think they lose any more favor in God's eyes by denouncing him. It's probably already too late.

I agree. I guess for me and my motivation for this thread is seeing people say over and over again how Obama is a Muslim and how we can never have a Muslim running our country. As I have stated, their religion doesn't matter to me. It just seems to me that some people would rather have an atheist as POTUS instead of a Muslim and I feel like that is because of 9/11. I don't know any Muslims but it still seems discriminatory to act in that manner. Someone shouldn't have to hide being a Muslim just because they want to be the POTUS. In my eyes, in our country, we should all be above all that.

That's what we should strive for!

I think politicians would be surprised how well they would be received if they were honest with who they were and what they actually believe.

I think a good example is Grimes. 90% of her ads make her sound like a Republican, she is running away from her party platform and who she will be in the Senate.

She may win the election but, she will getting many votes "Against Mitch" instead of "For Her".

She's a perfect example. She knows any affiliation with Obama causes her to lose the election. She has no choice.

Jon Stewart killed her last night on his show. :lol2:

I find it interesting how often throughout my history on this board that BGP is full of people who claim they vote with their faith, that they vote for someone "who's like them," yet there seems to be a lot of backtracking from that stance in this thread.

I don't think Obama would have been elected if he were Muslim. There IS a segment of our population with a massive distrust, at best towards Islam. That group is quite vocal and I don't think Obama would've garnered the necessary votes to be elected if he were Muslim.

Yes, at this point if it came out that Obama was in fact Muslim it would be bad because it would be a massive lie. But let's not kid ourselves here. From the get-go, it was painted as a negative by the "Obama is Muslim" folks out there. If it weren't a negative, why was it such a big deal from the beginning?

Let's all think of a scenario where Obama was an openly-practicing Muslim and began his campaign as such. The amount of smear ads giving that a negative light would have been overwhelming. I'm not saying anyone on here isn't being genuine with their statements that they don't care what religion he is. But I'm just trying to keep it real, when running for POTUS Muslim = "not good for a campaign".

This comment stood out for me. Totally agree with it so as not to hijack this thread, I created another about Joe Biden and his latest antics to get votes.

Original question:

Does it really make a difference? Wouldn't hating him because he is a Muslim be the same as hating someone for being a Christian? Isn't that still discrimination?

I ask because I saw people crying on Facebook(again) about Obama being a Muslim. I don't know, I just don't get it. Even if he is a Muslim how come people can't distinguish between radical Muslims and Muslims? We can distinguish between Westboro Baptist and Christians but not radical Muslims and Muslims.

The driver seems to be the threat of ISIS. As currently portrayed it sounds at times they are like Al Quada on steroids but with broader reach. People may be asking - how much is the US government infiltrated by Muslims and more specifically - radical Muslims.

Obama himself would not appear to be a dyed in the wool hardcore or even practicing Muslim. As noted, he has a heritage in the Islamic faith. That was one of his supposed strengths - part of his worldly multi-cultural background. Though how much he participated in the faith while growing up in Indonesia has been largely ignored by the press and the population in general. But his membership in the Chom gang in Hawaii and support of the gay/lesbian agenda probably shows he is not pushing a hardcore Islamic agenda.

But he is the lightning rod and gets more personal blame or credit that almost any recent holder of the office of President. He almost seems to like the fight in this regard and keeping the focus off of other parts of the administration who may deserve more scrutiny on the topic of Muslim/Islamic/foreign influence in the government. Who would that be? Iranian-born top adviser Valerie Jarrett is one. CIA director John Brennen - who has strong links to the Saudis is another. Hillary Clintons aid who is married to Anthony Weiner and has family ties to members of the Muslim Brotherhood is another. 'Jill Kelly' (not her given name) who took down a general or 2 in Florida is another. She is Jordanian, though that is never mentioned.

People should be somewhat concerned about Muslim/Radical Islamic/foreign influence from key positions in the administration. Like so many things Obama, fueled by his multicultural background, will draw the attention on this concern.

On the original question - "Does it really make a difference" - it would somewhat. If Obama came out of the Muslim closet it would definitely raise questions of what foreign countries or foriegn/religious factions have influence at the highest level. It would be a legitimate question to ask if this was Manchurian candidate/Trojan horse situation purely and solely from a national security level. I do not believe Obama has hidden any deep Islamic faith. Many policies and personal actions current and past are counter to a deep Islamic conviction (smoking - cigs and other), support of GL rights, etc. But people are looking at Islam with a much more critical view now with ISIS. And it seems they ignored Obama's multicultural background and act like its new news - when it really is not.

Nah, I like a good discussion on sociological issues sometimes. Unfortunately I forget that some of you can't get past certain issues and participate in a good discussion.

I thought we weren't allowed to talk about Bush in comparison to Obama. We can't blame Bush for Obama's failures. Sounds like you need to get over it.

Except I brought up Clinton and ALL RECENT PRESIDENTS (as in since Carter), but yet you want to think I'm only talking about Bush since you think it gives you a "gotcha moment".

You go on in this thread about people making this about Obama and "Obama sucks, yeah yeah yada yada yada" yet your own thread title is What if President Obama is a Muslim, then you get upset because we made it about Obama then you tell us you want a discussion about sociology in America concerning Barack Obama. You're sounding bi-polar in this thread, so don't blame me. :lol2:

And I've already apologized for not being more clear in my original post. I don't know what more you want me to say. You live for the gotcha moments. When I get got I admit it and keep it moving. I know what my intent was when I began the thread. Again, I am sorry for not being more clear.

Exactly. I should have voiced that more clearly as well in my original post for those who missed my intent. It's not new complaints about his faith. His faith has been questioned from day one.

Lincoln's opponents spread rumors that he was a Catholic in secret. What's happening today is just a variation of what's been going on for millennia -- accusing a leader of not being part of the tribe.

Isn't that the same as stereotyping though? They came from such and such so they are radicals? Is that what you are saying? That where they are from influences their decision making concerning America?
