Bellevue's Austin Woodyard and Zach Barrett should lead them.

Holmes:

James Bolden, Markel McClendon, Rod Avery (Don't be surprised if soph Jaiden Green starts for them...have heard he has gotten a lot more aggressive and is dunking any and everything near the rim. Nice size at 6'5-6'6....my sleeper, however, is 6'1 jr Marcus Mullins. One of the best athletes in the area. Missed a lot last year due to injury. Gives Holmes a legit deep threat)

IMO Jaiden has a lot of untapped potential. Watching him play a few times last year and then over this past summer I would think he could do more. He is only a soph so he has plenty of time to grow.

Next year I expect we will hear a lot more of his name.

You're going to need to learn your BGP history before taking shots, my friend.

The reference was not to Newport basketball. Since about 2003 we've been hearing annually from posters about Newport football "maybe surprising some people." You can set your calendar to the posts.

My apologies, I thought this was a reference to Newport basketball.

No offense Walter, and this is a good list. But this list is the definition of a big school bias... Not a single DIII school mentioned.

I honestly don't know enough about the small school teams to put together an educated list of players to watch for each team.

I have heard good things about the two that Q mentioned from Bellevue (Barrett/Woodyard...nice athletes) but until these teams start adding the big schools to their schedules, you will continue to see a lack of exposure. Sad but true. Ludlow usually plays a challenging schedule and I believe Bellevue is playing Covcath this year.

Since you obviously have more knowledge on these teams, how about you give us your list of players to watch?

My apologies, I thought this was a reference to Newport basketball.

Newport should be fine, as long as they run their offense.

Which in essence goes straight through Snapp. LOL

Just some FYI.... since 2010 Newport has a regional title and a regional championship appearance. thats a span of 4 years. So your "Newport may surprise some people" line is weak. Get some hate for a new team. Thanks.

They won the region in 2010 but have not had another championship appearance since then. ( Unless you simply mean they were in the regional tournament ).

Don't sweat it. Need more Newport talk on here.

.....

Okay, when people are drunk posting they announce it. I'm not. But I am in a lousy mood, so please excuse an unusual edge to this post. I have been asked in several PM's about Coach Faust, and clearly I came off more harshly than I intended, so I want to be crystal clear on my thoughts on the subject:

1. I like Dave as a guy. We have only spoken on a few occasions, but we have a couple of VERY close mutual friends, and I think he is a good man. That means a lot to me.

2. I hate Notre Dame. Dave loves them. Immaterial, but thought I'd include it.

3. I think he is a good basketball coach.

4. Someone every year, for about the last 10 years, has listed him on BGP as "...the most underrated coach in northern KY...." It is one of those BGP truisms that you can set your clock to. I think he is well thought of and respected, so I think underrated is probably inaccurate.

5. I HATE the phrase "...he does more with less..." (also used about him all of the time). HATE IT. It is so insulting to the kids that have played for him I can't see past it. He has had a lot of nice players, and still does, and to infer they have no talent is insulting. I'm certain Dave would agree with me 100% on this topic.

6. The "Faust narrative" isn't an insult. It is a reference to the constant chants of how underrated he is.

7. My post today was a shot at Scott Martin, also a good guy, for the record, I'm sorry if that wasn't clear.

8. I don't dislike Dave in any way, shape, or form.

9. I know several young men who played for Dave, they are by and large good people, and all of them say Dave made them a better person and man. I can't imagine a better compliment a leader of young men could receive.

Hope that clears everything up, and when someone starts the "most underrated coaches in the 9th" thread for the zillionth year in the row, I'll stand quietly by and let the enthralling conversation unfold.

Have a good night.

Was their game with CovCath a couple years ago just a regional game? I thought it was the championship. I could be wrong.

Didnt they beat Holmes in the finals?

So they should add teams to their schedule that they can't compete with?

If Bellevue plays Cov Cath this year and loses by 40 there will be plenty o folk asking 'why are they playing this game'?

Why wait? I'm already asking why CCH is playing Bellevue.

Jim Hicks is the Bellevue coach. He has been there a few years now which is an eternity when you think of the coaching turnover that has occurred their in the last ten yrs.

Maybe this is an opportunity for Bellevue to play better competition as they try and improve their program.

It's one game people relax.
