Towards the end, when Jones kept asking why he won't agree to a debate. Which in my opinion anyone who is in office should do, and answer questions. Then Mitch just hung up.

Mitch came out firing at Matt right from the start.

 

Mitch threw out the "Obama enthusiast" moniker very early.

 

They then got right down to issues.

 

Minimum wage: Whether you agree with his numbers or not the response was fine.

 

Matt certainly let him talk. He did challenge him on some of his contentions which I like.

 

Mitch never answered Matt's question about how repealing Obamacare would impact 500k people who have benefited.

 

Not sure why the Senator would not answer what he bases his gay marriage beliefs on. Went Bill Belichick on him.

 

I don't get the people on here and on social media who said it was "gotcha" journalism. I thought Matt was respectful but didn't let him NOT answer the question.

 

I will disagree with those that say this will have some sort of impact on the election. I see it having no impact.

Just listened to the interview. Jones was a lot tougher with Grimes IMO. Really pressed her on a lot of questions, but part of that was because she dodged a lot of them.

 

Mostly agree with Clizzy's analysis of the interview overall. McConnell was obviously miffed & didn't want to be there, letting that show by being accusatory from the get-go. I don't know how Mitch often responds in interviews, but it was a lot like John Calipari minus the charisma. He just yapped and yapped and yapped. But then again, he is an unlikeable robot, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Though I share the same beliefs as McConnell on gay marriage, that was his worst moment. Just state your belief & why you believe it. Why be afraid of that?

 

Having listened to the two interviews, I thought McConnell provided more substance than ALG, but ALG was a lot more personable. Neither of them did very well IMO.

Nope. Much to your chagrin, Mitch has staying power.

Need to start calling him Strom McConnell.

He didn't hang up on him...they exchanged "pleasantries" and then the call ended.

 

I think Turtle Man started off the way he did because he knew of Jones strong political leanings and the shows constant mocking of him.

 

When asked to say something good about MM, ALG refused. When asked to say something good about the President, MM came up with a couple of weak points but did at least give an answer.

 

Jones cracking jokes under his breath was childish IMO. He was much more professional during the Grimes interview.

He told him more than once he is debating her, just not on his show and I don't think he hung up on him. Again, what did he say or do that is so controversial? Was it calling Jones an "Obama enthusiast"? If that's it, all I can say is people are such drama queens if that's upsetting to anyone.

A debate would only be a staged beauty contest which IMO neither would win, but in most cases is seems the younger candidate is more appealing visually. Sad commentary about our time IMO. I thought Mitch answered the questions in depth with facts for the most part. It is concerning that people don't seem to get the facts.

 

Where is it factual that 500 thousand people have benefitted from Obamacare? McConnell did refer to the people that lost medicare coverage as a result of Obamacare. And, by the way, insurance coverage, and as affordable as Obamacare, was on the market and available before the passage of this law. It just wasn't mandatory. So, I guess we do benefit by eating our vegetables like our parents tell us?

I think both Mitch and Matt are pompous and arrogant and painful to listen to .

I think Jones wanted to have a light-hearted interview but since McConnell showed no sense of humor and called out Jones for being a Obama supporter it got more serious as Jones had to match McConnell's no-fun tone. I guess McConnell felt he had to make it clear he supports both major universities. I think the perfect answer to the very simple - who is your favorite Kentucky player would have been 'Christian Latner'. Of course that was not happening but it would have been good to see him poke fun at his own staffs error. But he was all business.

 

I thought the worst question was 'Do you believe in Global Warming?' - that is the gotcha question that is silly. And McConnells worst answer was on marriage. The one man, one woman answer was obviously the talking points and nothing else.

 

Politics and sports - usually bad combinations. This showed it.

How simple would it have been to simply say "my faith" when asked for a basis. End of story.
