Is Dave Wirth in trouble at CovCath?

Featured Replies

Agreed. Criticism can be expected, yes. However, all this job-on-the-line, torches-and-pitchforks, calling for high school coaches' heads over a couple of losses is immature and uncalled for. I love scanning these posts, mostly for for the humor factor, but also for other reasons (to keep up with the rest of the state games, etc.). They should be taken with less than a grain of salt. However, there are people I can think of who might actually read these posts and take them to heart -- and those are the kids... persons who might not know at this age how serious it is to call for the firing of a husband and father, because YOU perceived he made a mistake at work. To that extent, you are fueling this perceived "dissent" there may or may not be in the locker room. Pathetic.

Didn't mean "you" in particular, HB. Was referring to the "lynch-mob" mentality. (Re-read post and it didn't sound right to me).

Any Cov Cath fan or parent that knows Wirth should not even begin to think he is in trouble. While the results on the field are not what any fan wants, I believe there should be much more to how any High School coach is judged than just his W-L record. Look at the number of 'Thats my Boy' finalists Dave Wirth has had, not just at Cov Cath but also his previous stops. That says alot about who he is. Football adjustments will be made and stuff on the field will work itself out.

I'm a little out in the boonies, but what is a "That's my boy" anyway?

It's all good. I agree with everything you said and is why I posted what you replied to. It is humorous because there tends to be a very short memory for some. Rash said what he said because in part it was only a year ago he was on the hot seat.

Personally I think it should take more than 0 losing seasons to put a coach on the hot seat. Wirth has never had a losing season at CCH. I find it humorous too that the thought of him being gone after totaling 45 wins so far since he's been the HC at CCH (and this after taking over a program that had losing seasons every year the former HC had at CCH)

If Wirth is on the hot seat then the CCH Fan base need to take a long hard look at their own lives because there is a terrible flaw in their own lives that they have to take their anger out on a coach that has done nothing but win since he got there. I say all of this, but I still find it entertaining to watch them all clamor for the pitchforks lol. Not all of the fans, but some of them. Wonder what they'd do if they had some other coaches in the area as their HC?

Just a point of clarification since you like to refer to CovCath fans, alums, and parents as if they are a single entity, if Dave Wirth is on the hot seat it should have very little to do with the Fan Base. If Bob Rowe believes a change is best, take your broad brush insults up with him. There is no "fan base / booster" meeting to determine Dave's fate, at least that I'm aware of.

More than anything I think the team needs to have a closed door meeting between all players and coaches. They need to get themselves back on the same page. I think there is zero chance that they are as bad as they have played the past few weeks.

The season isn't over, and there is still time to turn this thing around. I won't harp on it, but even the 2006 team got their heads handed to them by a Watterson team that I honestly feel they were a couple scores better than. Let the past stay in the past and keep moving forward. This season is far from over...

Thank you, I never heard of it before. Very interesting and sounds like quite an honor to win this award.

True and I understand that neither the parents or fans or alum have a say in who the coach is etc. I was basically talking about the people (fans, parents and alum) who are starting the rumblings of wanting a coaching change. Not all, and basically I actually believe a very small minority of those people are ones who have started the rumblings. Even though they have no control over the coach etc. They still make noise and those are the people I referred to.

Instead of naming people individually because I don't know their names, I took the liberty to figure the rumblings were coming from CCH fans who are made up of those 3 groups.

Now wether Mr Rowe listens to anyone from the 3 groups I have no idea nor do I really care, I understand it is his decision. I think at CCH just like everywhere else, no matter who makes the decisions, they still are humans and can't always ignore the rumblings going on outside their window if there are in fact rumblings to be heard.

Mike Brown makes all the decisions for the Bengals but to think he doesn't listen to public perception of some things is being naive.

Now as I said, I think it would be a mistake to replace Coach Wirth, but then again I'm not one calling for his job.

Still kind of confused here. Couple questions:

• What year did Williams win it? He's not on this list.

• I'm assuming you mean it was renamed in his honor? It couldn't have been initially named for him since it seems to be an award that was given out well before his death. Who was it initially named for?

• What is the criteria for this award?

what is the criteria for this award?

I think it has been around for almost 50 years. It is through the National Football Foundation.

The criteria is based on the accumulation of points in three areas: football achievement (s), academic achievement, and extracurricular / community activities.

Does the 21 to 14 loss to Ryle change anyone's opinion?

No. I dnt think he's in trouble. I don't think CCH is very good but he has never had a losing season, that has to count for something.

I'd love to hear the Cov Cath faithful explain this one. It wasn't that long ago (3 weeks?) they were claiming to have the best team in NKY. Now? Not sure what's happening in Park Hills.

Losing your starting QB and backup would hurt ANY school in NKY.
