And Kareem wasn't as physical as Shaq, but still managed to score 30 some thousand points in the NBA?? Somebody banged with Highlands' big boys tonight!! Point is the inside threat, which was lacking earlier in the year; compliments the outside threat, to make them a much more dangerous team!! :thumb:

:thumb: I think Highlands was up 14-11 in rebounds at halftime, but CCH did a great job in the 2nd half and won it 35-26. Raiderbback you are right that they do not have a back to the basket scorer but when it comes to rebounding and interior defense, these tall skinny boys from Park Hill get the job done.

The key to beating covcath is to TRY to just manhandle them in the first half and get up by about 20 because thats the only way your going to beat this team. And even a 20 point lead in the second half isnt safe against these guys. The way they've played in the second half all this year is amazing.

 

And as cch5432 said, those tall skinny boys from park hills do get it done on the boards. There were several times in the covcath-holmes district game that I was impressed with the way they attacked the boards and found ways to get around someone trying to box them out. This covcath team is for real and will make some noise at rupp if they keep this intensity of play up.

I really thought that HHS would be able to win the game by "out-muscling" the Colonels. CovCath got hot from the perimeter, played good defense, and kept finding the open men. I was shocked at the shot selection of a few of the Birds.

 

Now on to Detzel's (CCH '86) boys tonight at Ryle. Can't wait...

I'll be curious to see Simpson next season. He obviously has what you're looking for in a player. However, I thought he was passive offensively both times I saw him against CCH. HHS needed a weapon last night and he could have been it.

 

I would expect him to be more aggressive next season.

I thought Vories really showed the Region what kind of a player he was in the 2nd period coming off of the 5 turnover 1st period. He is amazing....

 

He's very good at taking the ball to the hole and finishing(not as easy as it sounds)-especially baseline. He's also very good in a set offense with his slashes to the basket when he doesn't have the ball. You can win with this kid. He has some work to do with his ballhandling against pressure and needs to tighten up the outside shot but he's skilled.

I thought the Colonels ran some very good plays on offense that took advantage of the Birds' switching defense. Well done Mike. I love to get on Mike a little bit as I've known him most of my life. He actually was much calmer last night than I've seen him in the past, and that included the period in the first half when the Birds came back from way down (was it 18?) to take a four point lead at the half. I also thought Mike did a good job of getting his guards a lot of rest. Again, well done Mike.

 

Early in the second half, the Birds had several opportunities to score but the ball would not drop and they then seemed to lose their composure a bit and forced some bad shots as you mentioned. I was impressed with Noll's outside shooting. To me, the difference in the game was the first several shots by the Birds ( a couple of which were layups) in the second half not going down, Noll's outside shooting and the fact the Birds seemed tired in the second half.

 

The Colonels played their usual solid game. Their defense was much more intensive this game than the first game. I thought the Birds needed to force the ball inside more than they did.

 

Tough way for the careers of the Birds seniors to end, but they had a great year and hopefully can find some comfort knowing that they got beat by a very good team.

 

I expect that the Colonels will beat the Breds fairly easily tonight. Mike won't permit a let down and they have enough depth for Mike to yank any player that doesn't come focused tonight. And with more depth than the Breds, they'll be in a much better position to play another big game tonight. If I was Mike, I'd go with a fast paced offense, wear down the Breds and use the depth. But then again, I'm a football fan so what do I know.

 

Good luck to both teams tonight and congrats to the Birds. You had a great season with some very big wins during the year.

The great thing about Noll's 30 points? I would assume it's still less than his ACT score. You have to love seeing kids like Noll get to shine on nights like this. Great, very smart kid.

I would have guessed wrong on the TOs. That shooting % difference is huge. One thing I did notice was CCH seemed to run a couple more kids in off the bench. The last minute of the 1st quarter most if not all of the starters were resting. Couple that last 1:30 plus the break in between quarters, thats a nice blow. HHS seemed to expend a lot of energy in their 1st half comeback, leaving them a little gassed in the 2nd half.
