I don't recall who Simpson guarded last night, but both Timmy and TJ had good games. I don't know what would make that claim legitmate. He is probably Highlands top defender and overall player though and will have nice junior and senior seasons.

 

He guarded TJ most of the time and at times Timmy and neither of them enjoyed it too much. Blocked three of TJ's shots with pure individual athleticism. I remember TJ scoring once while Simpson was guarding him, and it was on a runout layup. Most of TJ's points occured when Highlands went to switching defenders on screens. He was the best defender on the floor last night and IMO I have not seen one better than him this season in the 9th.

Simpson had quite a few nice defensive plays - I don't know that I would call him the top defender in the 9th, but he was definitely one of the top defenders last night. He had at least 2 blocks.

Unfortunately I can... and so can many other BGP members. Nic has the ability to be a tremendous basketball player but needs to come to play every night and that will come with maturity. He can be....notice can be one of the top defenders in the 9th if he puts his mind to it. But he will need to be the offensive catalyst next year so he better start shooting jumpers this Spring/Summer/Fall....etc etc etc because that is really the only thing he lacks. JMO

I think he swatted Tim the times you are thinking. Unless he wound up with 5 blocks, which he may have who knows. VERY athletic and has great hops. The thing that makes him stand out over other defenders is that he is not only quick, but he can block shots even when they are put up very quickly. Tierney's shot is very quickly put up and is hard to get a read on or block and Simpson did well to block them.

At least 3 blocks on either TJ or Tim and the runout layup that you mention is the one that I already mentioned.

 

I am not speaking of his overall ability, just defensive ability. Not getting nuts, but if you think someone else is better state a case. I do not hear anyone else throwing out names that are better defenders... Good luck to CCH at RUPP

I would just like to give some props to Jefff Vories Dad, Mike! He had the core of the Bluebird team playing AAU year round for a number of years and worked tirelessly with them. His efforts have come to fruition with an excellent group of young men and I truly hope he and Amy don't pay for college!! Hey Mike...you get your life back!!

Amen... you cant put a price on the countless hours Mike put in not only with Jeff from the day he could probably hold a ball and the time he put in with many of those bluebirds. I think Jeff has shown what he can do against some of the top teams in the state and his exposure over the years in AAU is what will land him a nice college scholarship somewhere.
